²⁰ But Peter said to him, “Your money perish with you, because ^(A)you thought that ^(B)the gift of God could be purchased with money!

¹⁷ Then Daniel answered, and said before the king, “Let your gifts be for yourself, and give your rewards to another; yet I will read the writing to the king, and make known to him the interpretation.

³⁸ Then Peter said to them, ^(A)“Repent, and let every one of you be baptized in the name of Jesus Christ for the ^[a]remission of sins; and you shall receive the gift of the Holy Spirit.

⁸ Heal the sick, ^[a]cleanse the lepers, ^[b]raise the dead, cast out demons. ^(A)Freely you have received, freely give.

¹⁵ The merchants of these things, who became rich by her, will stand at a distance for fear of her torment, weeping and wailing,

¹⁴ having eyes full of ^[a]adultery and that cannot cease from sin, enticing unstable souls. ^(A)They have a heart trained in covetous practices, and are accursed children. ¹⁵ They have forsaken the right way and gone astray, following the way of ^(B)Balaam the son of Beor, who loved the wages of unrighteousness; ¹⁶ but he was rebuked for his iniquity: a dumb donkey speaking with a man’s voice restrained the madness of the prophet.

^17 (C)These are wells without water, ^[b]clouds carried by a tempest, for whom is reserved the blackness of darkness ^[c]forever.

³ Your gold and silver are corroded, and their corrosion will be a witness against you and will eat your flesh like fire. ^(A)You have heaped up treasure in the last days.

²² Repent therefore of this your wickedness, and pray God ^(A)if perhaps the thought of your heart may be forgiven you.

¹⁵ And he returned to the man of God, he and all his aides, and came and stood before him; and he said, “Indeed, now I know that there is ^(A)no God in all the earth, except in Israel; now therefore, please take ^(B)a gift from your servant.”

¹⁶ But he said, ^(C)“As the Lord lives, before whom I stand, ^(D)I will receive nothing.” And he urged him to take it, but he refused.

⁹ But those who desire to be rich fall into temptation and a snare, and into many foolish and harmful lusts which drown men in destruction and perdition.
