⁶⁰ Then he fell on his knees^(A) and cried out, “Lord, do not hold this sin against them.”^(B) When he had said this, he fell asleep.^(C)

⁴⁴ But I tell you, love your enemies and pray for those who persecute you,^(A)

³⁴ Jesus said, “Father,^(A) forgive them, for they do not know what they are doing.”^[a](B) And they divided up his clothes by casting lots.^(C)

¹⁴ Bless those who persecute you;^(A) bless and do not curse. ¹⁵ Rejoice with those who rejoice; mourn with those who mourn.^{(B) 16} Live in harmony with one another.^(C) Do not be proud, but be willing to associate with people of low position.^[a] Do not be conceited.^(D)

¹⁷ Do not repay anyone evil for evil.^(E) Be careful to do what is right in the eyes of everyone.^{(F) 18} If it is possible, as far as it depends on you, live at peace with everyone.^{(G) 19} Do not take revenge,^(H) my dear friends, but leave room for God’s wrath, for it is written: “It is mine to avenge; I will repay,”^[b](I) says the Lord. ²⁰ On the contrary:

²¹ Do not be overcome by evil, but overcome evil with good.

³⁶ When Paul had finished speaking, he knelt down with all of them and prayed.^(A)

⁴⁰ Peter sent them all out of the room;^(A) then he got down on his knees^(B) and prayed. Turning toward the dead woman, he said, “Tabitha, get up.”^(C) She opened her eyes, and seeing Peter she sat up.

²⁸ bless those who curse you, pray for those who mistreat you.^(A)

Believers Who Have Died

¹³ Brothers and sisters, we do not want you to be uninformed^(A) about those who sleep in death,^(B) so that you do not grieve like the rest of mankind, who have no hope.^{(C) 14} For we believe that Jesus died and rose again,^(D) and so we believe that God will bring with Jesus those who have fallen asleep in him.^(E)

²⁰ But Christ has indeed been raised from the dead,^(A) the firstfruits^(B) of those who have fallen asleep.^(C)
