²² For Moses said, ‘The Lord your God will raise up for you a prophet like me from among your own people; you must listen to everything he tells you.^(A)

¹⁵ The Lord your God will raise up for you a prophet like me from among you, from your fellow Israelites.^(A) You must listen to him. ¹⁶ For this is what you asked of the Lord your God at Horeb on the day of the assembly when you said, “Let us not hear the voice of the Lord our God nor see this great fire anymore, or we will die.”^(B)

¹⁷ The Lord said to me: “What they say is good. ¹⁸ I will raise up for them a prophet^(C) like you from among their fellow Israelites, and I will put my words^(D) in his mouth.^(E) He will tell them everything I command him.^{(F) 19} I myself will call to account^(G) anyone who does not listen^(H) to my words that the prophet speaks in my name.^(I)

³⁷ “This is the Moses who told the Israelites, ‘God will raise up for you a prophet like me from your own people.’^[a](A)

⁴ But when the set time had fully come,^(A) God sent his Son,^(B) born of a woman,^(C) born under the law,^(D)

¹⁷ For the law was given through Moses;^(A) grace and truth came through Jesus Christ.^(B)

⁹ and, once made perfect,^(A) he became the source of eternal salvation for all who obey him

⁹ But we do see Jesus, who was made lower than the angels for a little while, now crowned with glory and honor^(A) because he suffered death,^(B) so that by the grace of God he might taste death for everyone.^(C)

¹⁰ In bringing many sons and daughters to glory, it was fitting that God, for whom and through whom everything exists,^(D) should make the pioneer of their salvation perfect through what he suffered.^{(E) 11} Both the one who makes people holy^(F) and those who are made holy^(G) are of the same family. So Jesus is not ashamed to call them brothers and sisters.^{[a](H) 12} He says,

¹³ And again,

And again he says,

¹⁴ Since the children have flesh and blood,^(L) he too shared in their humanity^(M) so that by his death he might break the power^(N) of him who holds the power of death—that is, the devil^(O)— ¹⁵ and free those who all their lives were held in slavery by their fear^(P) of death. ¹⁶ For surely it is not angels he helps, but Abraham’s descendants.^{(Q) 17} For this reason he had to be made like them,^[e](R) fully human in every way, in order that he might become a merciful^(S) and faithful high priest^(T) in service to God,^(U) and that he might make atonement for the sins of the people.^(V)

God’s Final Word: His Son

1 In the past God spoke^(A) to our ancestors through the prophets^(B) at many times and in various ways,^{(C) 2} but in these last days^(D) he has spoken to us by his Son,^(E) whom he appointed heir^(F) of all things, and through whom^(G) also he made the universe.^(H)

²⁴ “Very truly I tell you, whoever hears my word and believes him who sent me^(A) has eternal life^(B) and will not be judged^(C) but has crossed over from death to life.^(D)
