⁹ Since much time had been lost and sailing was now dangerous, because even the Fast had already gone by, Paul advised them,^(A)

Offerings on the Day of Atonement

⁷ “On the tenth day of this seventh month you shall have a holy convocation and humble yourselves;^[a] you shall do no work.^(A)

²⁷ “Now, the tenth day of this seventh month is the Day of Atonement; it shall be a holy convocation for you: you shall humble yourselves^[a] and present the Lord’s offering by fire,^{[b](A) 28} and you shall do no work during that entire day, for it is a Day of Atonement, to make atonement on your behalf before the Lord your God. ²⁹ For those who do not humble themselves^[c] during that entire day shall be cut off from the people.^(B)

²⁹ “This shall be a statute to you forever: In the seventh month, on the tenth day of the month, you shall humble yourselves^[a] and shall do no work, neither the native-born nor the alien who resides among you.^{(A) 30} For on this day atonement shall be made for you, to cleanse you; from all your sins you shall be clean before the Lord. ³¹ It is a Sabbath of complete rest to you, and you shall humble yourselves;^[b] it is a statute forever.^(B)
