³ Then Paul said to him, “God will strike you, you whitewashed wall!^(A) You sit there to judge me according to the law, yet you yourself violate the law by commanding that I be struck!”^(B)

25 When people have a dispute, they are to take it to court and the judges^(A) will decide the case,^(B) acquitting^(C) the innocent and condemning the guilty.^{(D) 2} If the guilty person deserves to be beaten,^(E) the judge shall make them lie down and have them flogged in his presence with the number of lashes the crime deserves,

⁵¹ “Does our law condemn a man without first hearing him to find out what he has been doing?”

²⁷ “Woe to you, teachers of the law and Pharisees, you hypocrites! You are like whitewashed tombs,^(A) which look beautiful on the outside but on the inside are full of the bones of the dead and everything unclean. ²⁸ In the same way, on the outside you appear to people as righteous but on the inside you are full of hypocrisy and wickedness.
