³⁸ Then Peter said to them, ^(A)“Repent, and let every one of you be baptized in the name of Jesus Christ for the ^[a]remission of sins; and you shall receive the gift of the Holy Spirit.

¹² But when they believed Philip as he preached the things ^(A)concerning the kingdom of God and the name of Jesus Christ, both men and women were baptized.

³⁶ Now as they went down the road, they came to some water. And the eunuch said, “See, here is water. ^(A)What hinders me from being baptized?”

^37 [a]Then Philip said, ^(B)“If you believe with all your heart, you may.”

And he answered and said, ^(C)“I believe that Jesus Christ is the Son of God.”

³⁸ So he commanded the chariot to stand still. And both Philip and the eunuch went down into the water, and he baptized him.

The Holy Spirit Falls on the Gentiles

⁴⁴ While Peter was still speaking these words, ^(A)the Holy Spirit fell upon all those who heard the word. ^45 (B)And ^[a]those of the circumcision who believed were astonished, as many as came with Peter, ^(C)because the gift of the Holy Spirit had been poured out on the Gentiles also. ⁴⁶ For they heard them speak with tongues and magnify God.

Then Peter answered, ⁴⁷ “Can anyone forbid water, that these should not be baptized who have received the Holy Spirit ^(D)just as we have?” ^48 (E)And he commanded them to be baptized ^(F)in the name of the Lord. Then they asked him to stay a few days.

¹⁴ Now a certain woman named Lydia heard us. She was a seller of purple from the city of ^(A)Thyatira, who worshiped God. ^(B)The Lord opened her heart to heed the things spoken by Paul. ¹⁵ And when she and her household were baptized, she begged us, saying, “If you have judged me to be faithful to the Lord, come to my house and stay.” So ^(C)she persuaded us.

³⁰ And he brought them out and said, ^(A)“Sirs, what must I do to be saved?”

³¹ So they said, ^(B)“Believe on the Lord Jesus Christ, and you will be saved, you and your household.” ³² Then they spoke the word of the Lord to him and to all who were in his house. ³³ And he took them the same hour of the night and washed their stripes. And immediately he and all his family were baptized.

^8 (A)Then Crispus, the ruler of the synagogue, believed on the Lord with all his household. And many of the Corinthians, hearing, believed and were baptized.

Paul at Ephesus

19 And it happened, while ^(A)Apollos was at Corinth, that Paul, having passed through ^(B)the upper regions, came to Ephesus. And finding some disciples ² he said to them, “Did you receive the Holy Spirit when you believed?”

So they said to him, ^(C)“We have not so much as heard whether there is a Holy Spirit.”

³ And he said to them, “Into what then were you baptized?”

So they said, ^(D)“Into John’s baptism.”

⁴ Then Paul said, ^(E)“John indeed baptized with a baptism of repentance, saying to the people that they should believe on Him who would come after him, that is, on Christ Jesus.”

⁵ When they heard this, they were baptized ^(F)in the name of the Lord Jesus. ⁶ And when Paul had ^(G)laid hands on them, the Holy Spirit came upon them, and ^(H)they spoke with tongues and prophesied.
