18 Also many of those who were now believers came, (A)confessing and divulging their practices. 19 And a number of those who had practiced magic arts brought their books together and burned them in the sight of all. And they counted the value of them and found it came to fifty thousand pieces of silver. 20 So the word of the Lord (B)continued to increase and prevail mightily.

18 Many who became believers confessed their sinful practices. 19 A number of them who had been practicing sorcery brought their incantation books and burned them at a public bonfire. The value of the books was several million dollars.[a] 20 So the message about the Lord spread widely and had a powerful effect.

19 And many of those who had practiced curious, magical arts collected their books and [throwing them, [b]book after book, on the pile] burned them in the sight of everybody. When they counted the value of them, they found it amounted to 50,000 pieces of silver ([c]about $9,300).

20 Thus the Word of the Lord [concerning the [d]attainment through Christ of eternal salvation in the kingdom of God] grew and spread and intensified, prevailing mightily.
