⁶ But when they did not find them, they dragged Jason and some brethren to the rulers of the city, crying out, ^(A)“These who have turned the world upside down have come here too.

^5 (A)For we have found this man a plague, a creator of dissension among all the Jews throughout the world, and a ringleader of the sect of the Nazarenes.

¹⁹ But ^(A)when her masters saw that their hope of profit was gone, they seized Paul and Silas and ^(B)dragged them into the marketplace to the authorities.

²⁰ And they brought them to the magistrates, and said, “These men, being Jews, ^(C)exceedingly trouble our city; ²¹ and they teach customs which are not lawful for us, being Romans, to receive or observe.”

²² But we desire to hear from you what you think; for concerning this sect, we know that ^(A)it is spoken against everywhere.”

⁵ But they were the more fierce, saying, “He stirs up the people, teaching throughout all Judea, beginning from ^(A)Galilee to this place.”

Paul’s Roman Citizenship

²² And they listened to him until this word, and then they raised their voices and said, ^(A)“Away with such a fellow from the earth, for ^(B)he is not fit to live!” ²³ Then, as they cried out and ^[a]tore off their clothes and threw dust into the air,

²⁸ crying out, “Men of Israel, help! This is the man ^(A)who teaches all men everywhere against the people, the law, and this place; and furthermore he also brought Greeks into the temple and has defiled this holy place.” ²⁹ (For they had ^[a]previously seen ^(B)Trophimus the Ephesian with him in the city, whom they supposed that Paul had brought into the temple.)

³⁰ And ^(C)all the city was disturbed; and the people ran together, seized Paul, and dragged him out of the temple; and immediately the doors were shut. ³¹ Now as they were ^(D)seeking to kill him, news came to the commander of the ^[b]garrison that all Jerusalem was in an uproar.

¹² When Gallio was proconsul of Achaia, the Jews with one accord rose up against Paul and brought him to the ^[a]judgment seat, ¹³ saying, “This fellow persuades men to worship God contrary to the law.”

¹⁴ And this ^(A)gospel of the kingdom ^(B)will be preached in all the world as a witness to all the nations, and then the end will come.

² “Thus says the Lord: ^(A)‘He who remains in this city shall die by the sword, by famine, and by pestilence; but he who goes over to the Chaldeans shall live; his life shall be as a prize to him, and he shall live.’ ³ Thus says the Lord: ^(B)‘This city shall surely be ^(C)given into the hand of the king of Babylon’s army, which shall take it.’ ”
