¹⁷ So he argued in the synagogue with the Jews and the devout persons and also in the marketplace^[a] every day with those who happened to be there.

² And Paul went in, as was his custom, and on three Sabbath days argued with them from the scriptures,^{(A) 3} explaining and proving that it was necessary for the Messiah^[a] to suffer and to rise from the dead and saying, “This is the Messiah,^[b] Jesus whom I am proclaiming to you.”^{(B) 4} Some of them were persuaded and joined Paul and Silas, as did a great many of the devout Greeks and not a few of the leading women.^(C)

14 The same thing occurred in Iconium, where Paul^[a] and Barnabas^[b] went into the Jewish synagogue and spoke in such a way that a great number of both Jews and Greeks became believers. ² But the unbelieving Jews stirred up the gentiles and poisoned their minds against the brothers. ³ So they remained for a long time speaking boldly for the Lord, who testified to the word of his grace by granting signs and wonders to be done through them.^{(A) 4} But the residents of the city were divided: some sided with the Jews, and some with the apostles.^(B)

¹⁶ So Paul stood up and with a gesture began to speak:

“Fellow Israelites^[a] and others who fear God, listen.

²⁰ and immediately he began to proclaim Jesus in the synagogues, saying, “He is the Son of God.”

³ Therefore whatever you have said in the dark will be heard in the light, and what you have whispered behind closed doors will be proclaimed from the housetops.

¹⁵ And he said to them, “Go into all the world and proclaim the good news^[a] to the whole creation.
