Paul and Silas in Prison

¹⁶ As we were going to ^(A)the place of prayer, we were met by a slave girl who had ^(B)a spirit of ^(C)divination and ^(D)brought her owners much gain by fortune-telling.

^31 (A)“Do not turn to mediums or necromancers; do not seek them out, and so make yourselves unclean by them: I am the Lord your God.

Abominable Practices

⁹ “When you come into the land that the Lord your God is giving you, ^(A)you shall not learn to follow the abominable practices of those nations. ¹⁰ There shall not be found among you anyone ^(B)who burns his son or his daughter as an offering,^[a] anyone who ^(C)practices divination or ^(D)tells fortunes or interprets omens, or ^(E)a sorcerer ¹¹ or a charmer or ^(F)a medium or a necromancer or ^(G)one who inquires of the dead,

¹⁹ And when they say to you, “Inquire of the ^(A)mediums and the necromancers who chirp and mutter,” should not a people inquire of their God? Should they inquire of ^(B)the dead on behalf of the living?

¹³ So Saul died ^(A)for his breach of faith. He broke faith with the Lord in that he did not keep the command of the Lord, and also ^(B)consulted a medium, seeking guidance.

⁷ Then Saul said to his servants, ^(A)“Seek out for me a woman who is a medium, that I may go to her and inquire of her.” And his servants said to him, “Behold, there is a medium at ^(B)En-dor.”

¹⁰ For the love of money is a root of ^(A)all kinds of evils. It is through this craving that some have wandered away from the faith and pierced themselves with many pangs.

²⁰ idolatry, sorcery, enmity, strife, jealousy, fits of anger, rivalries, dissensions, ^(A)divisions,

¹¹ Then Pharaoh summoned the wise men and the sorcerers, and they, the ^(A)magicians of Egypt, also ^(B)did the same by their secret arts. ¹² For each man cast down his staff, and they became serpents. But Aaron's staff swallowed up their staffs.

⁸ Just as ^(A)Jannes and Jambres ^(B)opposed Moses, so these men also oppose the truth, ^(C)men corrupted in mind and ^(D)disqualified regarding the faith.
