⁸ And God, who knows the human heart, testified to them by giving them the Holy Spirit, just as he did to us,^(A)

⁴⁷ “Can anyone withhold the water for baptizing these people who have received the Holy Spirit just as we have?”^(A)

²⁴ Then they prayed and said, “Lord, you know everyone’s heart. Show us which one of these two you have chosen^(A)

²³ and I will strike her children dead. And all the churches will know that I am the one who searches minds and hearts, and I will give to each of you as your works deserve.^(A)

³ So they remained for a long time speaking boldly for the Lord, who testified to the word of his grace by granting signs and wonders to be done through them.^(A)

⁴ All of them were filled with the Holy Spirit and began to speak in other languages, as the Spirit gave them ability.^(A)

¹³ And before him no creature is hidden, but all are naked and laid bare to the eyes of the one to whom we must render an account.^(A)

⁴ while God added his testimony by signs and wonders and various miracles and by gifts of the Holy Spirit, distributed according to his will.^(A)

¹⁵ And as I began to speak, the Holy Spirit fell upon them just as it had upon us at the beginning.^{(A) 16} And I remembered the word of the Lord, how he had said, ‘John baptized with water, but you will be baptized with the Holy Spirit.’^{(B) 17} If then God gave them the same gift that he gave us when we believed in the Lord Jesus Christ, who was I that I could hinder God?”^(C)

Gentiles Receive the Holy Spirit

⁴⁴ While Peter was still speaking, the Holy Spirit fell upon all who heard the word.^{(A) 45} The circumcised believers who had come with Peter were astounded that the gift of the Holy Spirit had been poured out even on the gentiles,^(B)
