²² And ^(A)when He had removed him, ^(B)He raised up for them David as king, to whom also He gave testimony and said, ^(C)‘I have found David the son of Jesse, ^(D)a man after My own heart, who will do all My will.’

⁵ because David ^(A)did what was right in the eyes of the Lord, and had not turned aside from anything that He commanded him all the days of his life, ^(B)except in the matter of Uriah the Hittite.

¹³ And Samuel said to Saul, ^(A)“You have done foolishly. ^(B)You have not kept the commandment of the Lord your God, which He commanded you. For now the Lord would have established your kingdom over Israel forever. ^14 (C)But now your kingdom shall not continue. ^(D)The Lord has sought for Himself a man ^(E)after His own heart, and the Lord has commanded him to be commander over His people, because you have ^(F)not kept what the Lord commanded you.”

¹³ Then Samuel took the horn of oil and anointed him in the midst of his brothers; and ^(A)the Spirit of the Lord came upon David from that day forward. So Samuel arose and went to Ramah.

David Anointed King

16 Now the Lord said to Samuel, ^(A)“How long will you mourn for Saul, seeing I have rejected him from reigning over Israel? ^(B)Fill your horn with oil, and go; I am sending you to ^(C)Jesse the Bethlehemite. For ^(D)I have ^[a]provided Myself a king among his sons.”

^24 (A)“David My servant shall be king over them, and ^(B)they shall all have one shepherd; ^(C)they shall also walk in My judgments and observe My statutes, and do them. ^25 (D)Then they shall dwell in the land that I have given to Jacob My servant, where your fathers dwelt; and they shall dwell there, they, their children, and their children’s children, ^(E)forever; and ^(F)My servant David shall be their prince forever.

²⁸ So Samuel said to him, ^(A)“The Lord has torn the kingdom of Israel from you today, and has given it to a neighbor of yours, who is better than you.
