⁶ God spoke to him in this way: ‘For four hundred years your descendants will be strangers in a country not their own, and they will be enslaved and mistreated.^(A)

¹³ Then the Lord said to him, “Know for certain that for four hundred years^(A) your descendants will be strangers in a country not their own and that they will be enslaved^(B) and mistreated there.

¹⁷ What I mean is this: The law, introduced 430 years^(A) later, does not set aside the covenant previously established by God and thus do away with the promise.

⁴⁰ Now the length of time the Israelite people lived in Egypt^[a] was 430 years.^{(A) 41} At the end of the 430 years, to the very day, all the Lord’s divisions^(B) left Egypt.^(C)

¹⁶ In the fourth generation^(A) your descendants will come back here,^(B) for the sin of the Amorites^(C) has not yet reached its full measure.”
