³ Let no one deceive you by any means; for that Day will not come ^(A)unless the falling away comes first, and ^(B)the man of ^[a]sin is revealed, ^(C)the son of perdition,

⁶ Let no one deceive you with empty words, for because of these things the wrath of God comes upon the sons of disobedience.

⁴ And Jesus answered and said to them: ^(A)“Take heed that no one deceives you. ⁵ For ^(B)many will come in My name, saying, ‘I am the Christ,’ ^(C)and will deceive many. ⁶ And you will hear of ^(D)wars and rumors of wars. See that you are not troubled; for ^[a]all these things must come to pass, but the end is not yet.

The Great Apostasy

4 Now the Spirit ^[a]expressly says that in latter times some will depart from the faith, giving heed ^(A)to deceiving spirits and doctrines of demons, ^2 (B)speaking lies in hypocrisy, having their own conscience ^(C)seared with a hot iron, ³ forbidding to marry, and commanding to abstain from foods which God created to be received with thanksgiving by those who believe and know the truth.

¹² While I was with them ^[a]in the world, ^(A)I kept them in ^[b]Your name. Those whom You gave Me I have kept; and ^(B)none of them is ^[c]lost ^(C)except the son of ^[d]perdition, ^(D)that the Scripture might be fulfilled.

The Beast from the Earth

¹¹ Then I saw another beast ^(A)coming up out of the earth, and he had two horns like a lamb and spoke like a dragon. ¹² And he exercises all the authority of the first beast in his presence, and causes the earth and those who dwell in it to worship the first beast, ^(B)whose deadly wound was healed. ^13 (C)He performs great signs, ^(D)so that he even makes fire come down from heaven on the earth in the sight of men. ^14 (E)And he deceives ^[a]those who dwell on the earth ^(F)by those signs which he was granted to do in the sight of the beast, telling those who dwell on the earth to make an image to the beast who was wounded by the sword ^(G)and lived. ¹⁵ He was granted power to give breath to the image of the beast, that the image of the beast should both speak ^(H)and cause as many as would not worship the image of the beast to be killed. ¹⁶ He causes all, both small and great, rich and poor, free and slave, ^(I)to receive a mark on their right hand or on their foreheads, ¹⁷ and that no one may buy or sell except one who has ^[b]the mark or ^(J)the name of the beast, ^(K)or the number of his name.

^18 (L)Here is wisdom. Let him who has ^(M)understanding calculate ^(N)the number of the beast, ^(O)for it is the number of a man: His number is 666.

⁵ And he was given ^(A)a mouth speaking great things and blasphemies, and he was given authority to ^[a]continue for ^(B)forty-two months. ⁶ Then he opened his mouth in blasphemy against God, to blaspheme His name, ^(C)His tabernacle, and those who dwell in heaven.

⁸ And then the lawless one will be revealed, ^(A)whom the Lord will consume ^(B)with the breath of His mouth and destroy ^(C)with the brightness of His coming. ⁹ The coming of the lawless one is ^(D)according to the working of Satan, with all power, ^(E)signs, and lying wonders, ¹⁰ and with all unrighteous deception among ^(F)those who perish, because they did not receive ^(G)the love of the truth, that they might be saved.
