²⁵ And David built there an altar to the Lord, and offered burnt offerings and peace offerings. ^(A)So the Lord heeded the prayers for the land, and ^(B)the plague was withdrawn from Israel.

¹⁴ They buried the bones of Saul and Jonathan his son in the country of Benjamin in ^(A)Zelah, in the tomb of Kish his father. So they performed all that the king commanded. And after that ^(B)God heeded the prayer for the land.

¹⁴ And David said to Gad, “I am in great distress. Please let us fall into the hand of the Lord, ^(A)for His mercies are great; but ^(B)do not let me fall into the hand of man.”

¹⁷ But ^(A)he always returned to Ramah, for his home was there. There he judged Israel, and there he ^(B)built an altar to the Lord.

God’s Covenant with Creation

²⁰ Then Noah built an ^(A)altar to the Lord, and took of ^(B)every clean animal and of every clean bird, and offered ^(C)burnt offerings on the altar.

²⁶ And David built there an altar to the Lord, and offered burnt offerings and peace offerings, and called on the Lord; and ^(A)He answered him from heaven by fire on the altar of burnt offering.

²⁷ So the Lord commanded the angel, and he returned his sword to its sheath.

⁹ And Samuel took a ^(A)suckling lamb and offered it as a whole burnt offering to the Lord. Then ^(B)Samuel cried out to the Lord for Israel, and the Lord answered him.

⁹ Then they came to the place of which God had told him. And Abraham built an altar there and placed the wood in order; and he bound Isaac his son and ^(A)laid him on the altar, upon the wood.
