¹⁶ So the three mighty warriors broke through the Philistine lines, drew water from the well near the gate of Bethlehem and carried it back to David. But he refused to drink it; instead, he poured^(A) it out before the Lord.

¹⁴ Jacob set up a stone pillar^(A) at the place where God had talked with him, and he poured out a drink offering^(B) on it; he also poured oil on it.^(C)

¹⁴ For Christ’s love compels us, because we are convinced that one died for all, and therefore all died.^(A)

¹⁷ But even if I am being poured out like a drink offering^(A) on the sacrifice^(B) and service coming from your faith, I am glad and rejoice with all of you.^(C)

⁷ Very rarely will anyone die for a righteous person, though for a good person someone might possibly dare to die.

⁶ When they had assembled at Mizpah,^(A) they drew water and poured^(B) it out before the Lord. On that day they fasted and there they confessed, “We have sinned against the Lord.” Now Samuel was serving as leader^[a](C) of Israel at Mizpah.

⁷ The accompanying drink offering^(A) is to be a quarter of a hin of fermented drink^(B) with each lamb. Pour out the drink offering to the Lord at the sanctuary.^(C)

²⁴ However, I consider my life worth nothing to me;^(A) my only aim is to finish the race^(B) and complete the task^(C) the Lord Jesus has given me^(D)—the task of testifying to the good news of God’s grace.^(E)
