⁴¹ Soon all the men of Israel were coming to the king and saying to him, “Why did our brothers, the men of Judah, steal the king away and bring him and his household across the Jordan, together with all his men?”^(A)

Jephthah and Ephraim

12 The Ephraimite forces were called out, and they crossed over to Zaphon.^(A) They said to Jephthah,^(B) “Why did you go to fight the Ammonites without calling us to go with you?^(C) We’re going to burn down your house over your head.”

Zebah and Zalmunna

8 Now the Ephraimites asked Gideon,^(A) “Why have you treated us like this? Why didn’t you call us when you went to fight Midian?^(B)”^(C) And they challenged him vigorously.^(D)

⁵ For even his own brothers did not believe in him.^(A)

⁶ Therefore Jesus told them, “My time^(B) is not yet here; for you any time will do.

³ The men stole into the city that day as men steal in who are ashamed when they flee from battle.

²⁶ Then Laban said to Jacob, “What have you done?^(A) You’ve deceived me,^(B) and you’ve carried off my daughters like captives in war.^{(C) 27} Why did you run off secretly and deceive me? Why didn’t you tell me,^(D) so I could send you away with joy and singing to the music of timbrels^(E) and harps?^(F)
