³⁰ Then he said to his servants, “Look, Joab’s field is next to mine, and he has barley^(A) there. Go and set it on fire.” So Absalom’s servants set the field on fire.

⁴ So he went out and caught three hundred foxes^(A) and tied them tail to tail in pairs. He then fastened a torch^(B) to every pair of tails, ⁵ lit the torches^(C) and let the foxes loose in the standing grain of the Philistines. He burned up the shocks^(D) and standing grain, together with the vineyards and olive groves.

⁶ Then Jehu wrote them a second letter, saying, “If you are on my side and will obey me, take the heads of your master’s sons and come to me in Jezreel by this time tomorrow.”

Now the royal princes, seventy of them, were with the leading men of the city, who were rearing them. ⁷ When the letter arrived, these men took the princes and slaughtered all seventy^(A) of them. They put their heads^(B) in baskets and sent them to Jehu in Jezreel.

³³ “Throw her down!” Jehu said. So they threw her down, and some of her blood spattered the wall and the horses as they trampled her underfoot.^(A)

⁹ In those letters she wrote:

¹¹ So the elders and nobles who lived in Naboth’s city did as Jezebel directed in the letters she had written to them. ¹² They proclaimed a fast^(C) and seated Naboth in a prominent place among the people. ¹³ Then two scoundrels came and sat opposite him and brought charges against Naboth before the people, saying, “Naboth has cursed both God and the king.” So they took him outside the city and stoned him to death.^{(D) 14} Then they sent word to Jezebel: “Naboth has been stoned to death.”

²⁸ Absalom^(A) ordered his men, “Listen! When Amnon is in high^(B) spirits from drinking wine and I say to you, ‘Strike Amnon down,’ then kill him. Don’t be afraid. Haven’t I given you this order? Be strong and brave.^(C)” ²⁹ So Absalom’s men did to Amnon what Absalom had ordered. Then all the king’s sons got up, mounted their mules and fled.
