³ But Amnon had a friend whose name was Jonadab ^(A)the son of Shimeah, David’s brother. Now Jonadab was a very crafty man.

⁹ Then Jesse made Shammah pass by. And he said, “Neither has the Lord chosen this one.”

^15 (A)This wisdom does not descend from above, but is earthly, sensual, demonic.

¹⁹ For the wisdom of this world is foolishness with God. For it is written, ^(A)“He catches the wise in their own craftiness”;

¹³ When Haman told his wife Zeresh and all his friends everything that had happened to him, his wise men and his wife Zeresh said to him, “If Mordecai, before whom you have begun to fall, is of Jewish descent, you will not prevail against ^(A)him but will surely fall before him.”

¹⁴ Then his wife Zeresh and all his friends said to him, “Let a ^(A)gallows^[a] be made, ^[b]fifty cubits high, and in the morning ^(B)suggest to the king that Mordecai be hanged on it; then go merrily with the king to the banquet.”

And the thing pleased Haman; so he had ^(C)the gallows made.

¹⁰ Nevertheless Haman ^(A)restrained himself and went home, and he sent and called for his friends and his wife Zeresh.

¹⁹ So the king said, “Is the hand of Joab with you in all this?” And the woman answered and said, “As you live, my lord the king, no one can turn to the right hand or to the left from anything that my lord the king has spoken. For your servant Joab commanded me, and ^(A)he put all these words in the mouth of your maidservant. ²⁰ To bring about this change of affairs your servant Joab has done this thing; but my lord is wise, ^(B)according to the wisdom of the angel of God, to know everything that is in the earth.”
