⁶ and knowledge with self-control, and self-control ^(A)with steadfastness, and steadfastness with godliness,

³⁶ For ^(A)you have need of endurance, so that ^(B)when you have done the will of God you may ^(C)receive what is promised.

³ Not only that, but we ^(A)rejoice in our sufferings, knowing that suffering ^(B)produces endurance, ⁴ and endurance produces character, and character produces hope,

¹⁹ By your ^(A)endurance you will gain your lives.

12 Therefore, since we are surrounded by so great a cloud of witnesses, let us also lay aside every weight, and ^(A)sin which clings so closely, and ^(B)let us run ^(C)with endurance the race that is ^(D)set before us,

²⁵ And as he reasoned ^(A)about righteousness and self-control and the coming judgment, Felix was alarmed and said, “Go away for the present. ^(B)When I get an opportunity I will summon you.”

^12 (A)Here is a call for the endurance of the saints, those who ^(B)keep the commandments of God and their faith in Jesus.^[a]

^2 (A)“‘I know your works, your toil and your patient endurance, and how you cannot bear with those who are evil, but ^(B)have tested those ^(C)who call themselves apostles and are not, and found them to be false.

Patience in Suffering

⁷ Be patient, therefore, brothers,^[a] until the coming of the Lord. See how the farmer waits for the precious fruit of the earth, being patient about it, until it receives ^(A)the early and the late rains. ⁸ You also, be patient. ^(B)Establish your hearts, for the coming of the Lord ^(C)is at hand. ⁹ Do not grumble against one another, brothers, ^(D)so that you may not be judged; behold, ^(E)the Judge is standing ^(F)at the door. ¹⁰ As an example of suffering and patience, brothers, take ^(G)the prophets who spoke in the name of the Lord.
