¹⁶ Then he said, ^[a]“About this time next year you shall embrace a son.”

And she said, “No, my lord. Man of God, ^(A)do not lie to your maidservant!”

¹⁰ And He said, “I will certainly return to you ^(A)according to the time of life, and behold, ^(B)Sarah your wife shall have a son.”

(Sarah was listening in the tent door which was behind him.)

²⁸ So she said, “Did I ask a son of my lord? ^(A)Did I not say, ‘Do not deceive me’?”

²¹ But My ^(A)covenant I will establish with Isaac, ^(B)whom Sarah shall bear to you at this ^(C)set time next year.”

¹³ But the angel said to him, “Do not be afraid, Zacharias, for your prayer is heard; and your wife Elizabeth will bear you a son, and ^(A)you shall call his name John.

³⁰ Then the angel said to her, “Do not be afraid, Mary, for you have found ^(A)favor with God. ^31 (B)And behold, you will conceive in your womb and bring forth a Son, and ^(C)shall call His name Jesus.

¹⁸ So she said to Elijah, ^(A)“What have I to do with you, O man of God? Have you come to me to bring my sin to remembrance, and to kill my son?”

¹² Therefore Sarah ^(A)laughed within herself, saying, ^(B)“After I have grown old, shall I have pleasure, my ^(C)lord being old also?”

¹³ And the Lord said to Abraham, “Why did Sarah laugh, saying, ‘Shall I surely bear a child, since I am old?’ ^14 (D)Is anything too hard for the Lord? ^(E)At the appointed time I will return to you, according to the time of life, and Sarah shall have a son.”

¹⁵ But Sarah denied it, saying, “I did not laugh,” for she was afraid.

And He said, “No, but you did laugh!”

¹⁶ And I will bless her ^(A)and also give you a son by her; then I will bless her, and she shall be a mother ^(B)of nations; ^(C)kings of peoples shall be from her.”

¹⁷ Then Abraham fell on his face ^(D)and laughed, and said in his heart, “Shall a child be born to a man who is one hundred years old? And shall Sarah, who is ninety years old, bear a child?”
