^18 (A)And the captain of the guard took ^(B)Seraiah the chief priest and ^(C)Zephaniah the second priest and the three keepers of the threshold;

²⁵ “Thus says the Lord of hosts, the God of Israel: You have sent letters in your name to all the people who are in Jerusalem, and to ^(A)Zephaniah the son of ^(B)Maaseiah the priest, and to all the priests, saying,

21 This is the word that came to Jeremiah from the Lord, when King Zedekiah sent to him ^(A)Pashhur the son of Malchiah and ^(B)Zephaniah the priest, the son of ^(C)Maaseiah, saying,

7 Now after this, ^(A)in the reign of ^(B)Artaxerxes king of Persia, ^(C)Ezra the son of Seraiah, son of Azariah, son of Hilkiah,

¹⁴ Azariah fathered ^(A)Seraiah, Seraiah fathered Jehozadak;

The People Exiled to Babylon

²⁴ And the captain of the guard took ^(A)Seraiah the chief priest, and ^(B)Zephaniah the second priest and the three keepers of the threshold;

^29 (A)Zephaniah the priest read this letter in the hearing of Jeremiah the prophet.

²⁴ And Gedaliah swore to them and their men, saying, “Do not be afraid because of the Chaldean officials. Live in the land and serve the king of Babylon, and it shall be well with you.” ^25 (A)But in the seventh month, ^(B)Ishmael the son of Nethaniah, son of Elishama, of the royal family, came with ten men and struck down Gedaliah and put him to death along with the Jews and the Chaldeans who were with him at Mizpah. ^26 (C)Then all the people, both small and great, and the captains of the forces arose and went to Egypt, for they were afraid of the Chaldeans.
