Isaiah Prophesies Sennacherib's Fall

²⁰ Then Isaiah the son of Amoz sent to Hezekiah, saying, “Thus says the Lord, the God of Israel: Your prayer to me about Sennacherib king of Assyria ^(A)I have heard.

⁵ “Turn back, and say to Hezekiah ^(A)the leader of my people, Thus says the Lord, the God of David your father: ^(B)I have heard your prayer; ^(C)I have seen your tears. Behold, I will heal you. On the third day you shall go up to the house of the Lord,

The Lord Delivers Jerusalem

²⁰ Then Hezekiah the king and Isaiah the prophet, the son of Amoz, prayed because of this and cried to heaven. ²¹ And the Lord sent an angel, who cut off all the mighty warriors and commanders and officers in the camp of the king of Assyria. So he returned with ^(A)shame of face to his own land. And when he came into the house of his god, some of his own sons struck him down there with the sword.

¹⁴ And this is ^(A)the confidence that we have toward him, that ^(B)if we ask anything according to his will he hears us. ¹⁵ And if we know that he hears us in whatever we ask, we know that we have the requests that we have asked of him.

³¹ and said, ‘Cornelius, ^(A)your prayer has been heard and your alms have been remembered before God.

^3 (A)Call to me and I will answer you, ^(B)and will tell you great and hidden things that you have not known.

⁴ And he stared at him in terror and said, “What is it, Lord?” And he said to him, “Your prayers and your alms ^(A)have ascended ^(B)as a memorial before God.

^42 (A)I knew that you always hear me, but I said this ^(B)on account of the people standing around, ^(C)that they may believe that you sent me.”

³¹ And it was told David, “Ahithophel is among the conspirators with Absalom.” And David said, “O Lord, please ^(A)turn the counsel of Ahithophel into foolishness.”
