The Word of the Lord Concerning Sennacherib^(A)

²⁰ Then Isaiah the son of Amoz sent to Hezekiah, saying, “Thus says the Lord God of Israel: ^(B)‘Because you have prayed to Me against Sennacherib king of Assyria, ^(C)I have heard.’

⁵ “Return and tell Hezekiah ^(A)the leader of My people, ‘Thus says the Lord, the God of David your father: ^(B)“I have heard your prayer, I have seen ^(C)your tears; surely I will heal you. On the third day you shall go up to the house of the Lord.

Sennacherib’s Defeat and Death^(A)

^20 (B)Now because of this King Hezekiah and ^(C)the prophet Isaiah, the son of Amoz, prayed and cried out to heaven. ^21 (D)Then the Lord sent an angel who cut down every mighty man of valor, leader, and captain in the camp of the king of Assyria. So he returned ^(E)shamefaced to his own land. And when he had gone into the temple of his god, some of his own offspring struck him down with the sword there.

Confidence and Compassion in Prayer

¹⁴ Now this is the confidence that we have in Him, that ^(A)if we ask anything according to His will, He hears us. ¹⁵ And if we know that He hears us, whatever we ask, we know that we have the petitions that we have asked of Him.

³¹ and said, ‘Cornelius, ^(A)your prayer has been heard, and ^(B)your ^[a]alms are remembered in the sight of God.

⁴ And when he observed him, he was afraid, and said, “What is it, lord?”

So he said to him, “Your prayers and your alms have come up for a memorial before God.

⁴² And I know that You always hear Me, but ^(A)because of the people who are standing by I said this, that they may believe that You sent Me.”

The Seventy-Weeks Prophecy

²⁰ Now while I was speaking, praying, and confessing my sin and the sin of my people Israel, and presenting my supplication before the Lord my God for the holy mountain of my God, ²¹ yes, while I was speaking in prayer, the man ^(A)Gabriel, whom I had seen in the vision at the beginning, ^[a]being caused to fly swiftly, reached me about the time of the evening offering. ²² And he informed me, and talked with me, and said, “O Daniel, I have now come forth to give you skill to understand. ²³ At the beginning of your supplications the ^[b]command went out, and I have come to tell you, for you are greatly ^(B)beloved; therefore ^(C)consider the matter, and understand the vision:

^3 (A)‘Call to Me, and I will answer you, and show you great and ^[a]mighty things, which you do not know.’
