² But Jehosheba, King Joram’s daughter, Ahaziah’s sister, took Joash son of Ahaziah and stole him away from among the king’s children who were about to be killed; she put^[a] him and his nurse in a bedroom. Thus she^[b] hid him from Athaliah, so that he was not killed;^(A)

⁴⁵ He said to me, “This chamber that faces south is for the priests who have charge of the temple,^(A)

² Go to the house of the Rechabites, and speak with them, and bring them to the house of the Lord, into one of the chambers; then offer them wine to drink.^(A)

²⁶ would I reject the offspring of Jacob and of my servant David and not choose any of his descendants as rulers over the offspring of Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob. For I will restore their fortunes and will have mercy upon them.^(A)

²¹ only then could my covenant with my servant David be broken, so that he would not have a son to reign on his throne, and my covenant with my ministers the Levites.^(A)

¹⁷ For thus says the Lord: David shall never lack a man to sit on the throne of the house of Israel,^(A)

³⁵ For I will defend this city to save it, for my own sake and for the sake of my servant David.”^(A)

⁶ ‘Let us go up against Judah and terrify it^[a] and conquer it for ourselves and make the son of Tabeel king in it’; ⁷ therefore thus says the Lord God:
