Coming with Authority

13 This will be ^(A)the third time I am coming to you. ^(B)“By the mouth of two or three witnesses every word shall be established.”

¹⁶ But if he will not hear, take with you one or two more, that ^(A)‘by the mouth of two or three witnesses every word may be established.’

The Law Concerning Witnesses

^15 (A)“One witness shall not rise against a man concerning any iniquity or any sin that he commits; by the mouth of two or three witnesses the matter shall be established.

^17 (A)It is also written in your law that the testimony of two men is true. ¹⁸ I am One who bears witness of Myself, and ^(B)the Father who sent Me bears witness of Me.”

⁶ Whoever is deserving of death shall be put to death on the testimony of two or three ^(A)witnesses; he shall not be put to death on the testimony of one witness.

^14 (A)Now for the third time I am ready to come to you. And I will not be burdensome to you; for ^(B)I do not seek yours, but you. ^(C)For the children ought not to lay up for the parents, but the parents for the children.

³⁰ Whoever kills a person, the murderer shall be put to death on the ^(A)testimony of witnesses; but one witness is not sufficient testimony against a person for the death penalty.

²⁸ Anyone who has rejected Moses’ law dies without mercy on the testimony of two or three ^(A)witnesses. ^29 (B)Of how much worse punishment, do you suppose, will he be thought worthy who has trampled the Son of God underfoot, ^(C)counted the blood of the covenant by which he was sanctified a common thing, ^(D)and insulted the Spirit of grace?

^60 [a]but found none. Even though ^(A)many false witnesses came forward, they found none. But at last ^(B)two ^[b]false witnesses came forward ⁶¹ and said, “This fellow said, ^(C)‘I am able to destroy the temple of God and to build it in three days.’ ”
