Rulers and Prophets Denounced

And I said:
(A)Hear, you heads of Jacob
    and rulers of the house of Israel!
(B)Is it not for you to know justice?—
    you (C)who hate the good and love the evil,
(D)who tear the skin from off my people[a]

(E)who eat the flesh of my people,
    and flay their skin from off them,
and break their bones in pieces
    and chop them up like meat in a pot,

(F)Then they will cry to the Lord,
    but he will not answer them;
(G)he will hide his face from them at that time,
    because they have made their deeds evil.

Then he said to me, (A)“Son of man, lift up your eyes now toward the north.” So I lifted up my eyes toward the north, and behold, north of (B)the altar gate, in the entrance, was this (C)image of jealousy. But you will see still greater abominations.”

And he brought me to the entrance of the court, and when I looked, behold, there was a hole in the wall. Then he said to me, “Son of man, (G)dig in the wall.” So I dug in the wall, and behold, there was an entrance. And he said to me, “Go in, and see (H)the vile abominations that they are committing here.” 10 So I went in and saw. 14 Then he brought me to (T)the entrance of the north gate of the house of the Lord, and behold, there sat women weeping for Tammuz. 15 Then he said to me, “Have you seen this, O (U)son of man? (V)You will see still greater abominations than these.”

10 When King Ahaz went to Damascus to meet (A)Tiglath-pileser king of Assyria, he saw the altar that was at Damascus. And King Ahaz sent to (B)Uriah the priest a model of the altar, and its pattern, exact in all its details. 11 And Uriah the priest built the altar; in accordance with all that King Ahaz had sent from Damascus, so Uriah the priest made it, before King Ahaz arrived from Damascus. 12 And when the king came from Damascus, the king viewed the altar. (C)Then the king drew near to the altar and went up on it 13 and burned his burnt offering and his grain offering and poured his drink offering and threw the blood of his peace offerings on the altar. 14 And (D)the bronze altar that was before the Lord he removed (E)from the front of the house, from the place between (F)his altar and the house of the Lord, and put it on the north side of (G)his altar. 15 And King Ahaz commanded Uriah the priest, saying, “On the great altar burn (H)the morning burnt offering and the evening grain offering and the king's burnt offering and his grain offering, with the burnt offering of all the people of the land, and their grain offering and their drink offering.
