²⁸ “Surely I will gather you to your fathers, and you shall be gathered to your grave in peace; and your eyes shall not see all the calamity which I will bring on this place and its inhabitants.” ’ ” So they brought back word to the king.

Israel’s Futile Idolatry

^24 (A)His servants therefore took him out of that chariot and put him in the second chariot that he had, and they brought him to Jerusalem. So he died, and was buried in one of the tombs of his fathers. And ^(B)all Judah and Jerusalem mourned for Josiah.

^14 (A)Even if these three men, Noah, Daniel, and Job, were in it, they would deliver only themselves ^(B)by their righteousness,” says the Lord God.

¹⁵ “If I cause ^(C)wild beasts to pass through the land, and they ^[a]empty it, and make it so desolate that no man may pass through because of the beasts, ¹⁶ even ^(D)though these three men were ^[b]in it, as I live,” says the Lord God, “they would deliver neither sons nor daughters; only they would be delivered, and the land would be ^(E)desolate.

¹⁷ “Or if ^(F)I bring a sword on that land, and say, ‘Sword, go through the land,’ and I ^(G)cut off man and beast from it, ¹⁸ even ^(H)though these three men were in it, as I live,” says the Lord God, “they would deliver neither sons nor daughters, but only they themselves would be delivered.

¹⁹ “Or if I send ^(I)a pestilence into that land and ^(J)pour out My fury on it in blood, and cut off from it man and beast, ²⁰ even ^(K)though Noah, Daniel, and Job were in it, as I live,” says the Lord God, “they would deliver neither son nor daughter; they would deliver only themselves by their righteousness.”

²¹ For thus says the Lord God: “How much more it shall be when ^(L)I send My four ^[c]severe judgments on Jerusalem—the sword and famine and wild beasts and pestilence—to cut off man and beast from it?

The Lord Will Not Relent

15 Then the Lord said to me, ^(A)“Even if ^(B)Moses and ^(C)Samuel stood before Me, My ^[a]mind would not be favorable toward this people. Cast them out of My sight, and let them go forth.

⁸ So Hezekiah said to Isaiah, ^(A)“The word of the Lord which you have spoken is good!” For he said, “At least there will be peace and truth in my days.”
