³¹ And so in the matter of the envoys of the princes of Babylon, ^(A)who had been sent to him to inquire about ^(B)the sign that had been done in the land, God left him to himself, ^(C)in order to test him and to know all that was in his heart.

² And you shall remember the whole way that the Lord your God has led you ^(A)these forty years in the wilderness, that he might humble you, ^(B)testing you ^(C)to know what was in your heart, ^(D)whether you would keep his commandments or not.

⁵ I am the vine; ^(A)you are the branches. Whoever abides in me and I in him, he it is that ^(B)bears much fruit, for apart from me you can do nothing.

For ^(B)he is like a refiner's fire and like fullers' soap. ³ He will sit ^(C)as a refiner and purifier of silver, and he will purify the sons of Levi and refine them like gold and silver, and they will bring ^(D)offerings in righteousness to the Lord.^[a]
