¹⁶ But after Uzziah became powerful, his pride^(A) led to his downfall.^(B) He was unfaithful^(C) to the Lord his God, and entered the temple of the Lord to burn incense^(D) on the altar of incense.

²⁵ But Hezekiah’s heart was proud^(A) and he did not respond to the kindness shown him; therefore the Lord’s wrath^(B) was on him and on Judah and Jerusalem.

¹⁹ You say to yourself that you have defeated Edom, and now you are arrogant and proud. But stay at home! Why ask for trouble and cause your own downfall and that of Judah also?”

¹⁷ You may say to yourself,^(A) “My power and the strength of my hands^(B) have produced this wealth for me.”

¹⁴ then your heart will become proud and you will forget^(A) the Lord your God, who brought you out of Egypt, out of the land of slavery.

¹⁸ Do not let anyone who delights in false humility^(A) and the worship of angels disqualify you.^(B) Such a person also goes into great detail about what they have seen; they are puffed up with idle notions by their unspiritual mind.

¹² When the king came back from Damascus and saw the altar, he approached it and presented offerings^[a](A) on it. ¹³ He offered up his burnt offering^(B) and grain offering,^(C) poured out his drink offering,^(D) and splashed the blood of his fellowship offerings^(E) against the altar.
