^10 (A)whenever a case comes to you from your brothers who live in their cities, concerning bloodshed, law or commandment, statutes or rules, then you shall warn them, that they may not incur guilt before the Lord and ^(B)wrath may not come upon you and your brothers. Thus you shall do, and you will not incur guilt.

Legal Decisions by Priests and Judges

⁸ “If any case arises requiring decision between one kind of homicide and another, one kind of legal right and another, or one kind of assault and another, any case within your towns that is too difficult for you, then you shall arise and go up to ^(A)the place that the Lord your God will choose. ^9 (B)And you shall come to the Levitical priests and to the judge who is in office in those days, and you shall consult them, and ^(C)they shall declare to you the decision. ¹⁰ Then you shall do according to what they declare to you from that place that the Lord will choose. And you shall be careful to do according to all that they direct you. ¹¹ According to the instructions that they give you, and according to the decision which they pronounce to you, you shall do. You shall not turn aside from the verdict that they declare to you, either to the right hand or to the left. ¹² The man who ^(D)acts presumptuously by not obeying the priest ^(E)who stands to minister there before the Lord your God, or the judge, that man shall die. So ^(F)you shall purge the evil from Israel. ¹³ And all the people ^(G)shall hear and fear and not act presumptuously again.

¹⁴ And we urge you, brothers, admonish ^(A)the idle,^{[a] (B)}encourage the fainthearted, ^(C)help the weak, ^(D)be patient with them all.

³¹ Therefore ^(A)be alert, remembering that ^(B)for three years I did not cease night or day ^(C)to admonish every one ^(D)with tears.

^6 (A)But if the watchman sees the sword coming and does not blow the trumpet, so that the people are not warned, and the sword comes and takes any one of them, ^(B)that person is taken away in his iniquity, but his blood I will require at the watchman's hand.

^18 (A)If I say to the wicked, ^(B)‘You shall surely die,’ ^(C)and you give him no warning, nor speak to warn the wicked from his wicked way, in order to save his life, that wicked person ^(D)shall die for^[a] his iniquity, ^(E)but his blood I will require at your hand. ^19 (F)But if you warn the wicked, and he does not turn from his wickedness, or from his wicked way, he shall die for his iniquity, ^(G)but you ^(H)will have delivered your soul. ^20 (I)Again, if a righteous person turns from his righteousness and commits injustice, ^(J)and I lay a stumbling block before him, he shall die. ^(K)Because you have not warned him, he shall die for his sin, ^(L)and his righteous deeds that he has done shall not be remembered, ^(M)but his blood I will require at your hand. ²¹ But if you warn the righteous person not to sin, and he does not sin, he shall surely live, because he took warning, and you will have delivered your soul.”

² But ^(A)Jehu the son of ^(B)Hanani ^(C)the seer went out to meet him and said to King Jehoshaphat, “Should you ^(D)help the wicked and love those who hate the Lord? Because of this, ^(E)wrath has gone out against you from the Lord.

¹⁸ that you too must turn away this day from following the Lord? And if ^(A)you too rebel against the Lord today then tomorrow ^(B)he will be angry with the whole congregation of Israel. ¹⁹ But now, if the land of your possession is unclean, pass over into the Lord's land ^(C)where the Lord's tabernacle stands, and take for yourselves a possession among us. ^(D)Only do not rebel against the Lord or make us as rebels by building for yourselves an altar other than the altar of the Lord our God. ^20 (E)Did not Achan the son of Zerah break faith in the matter of the devoted things, and ^(F)wrath fell upon all the congregation of Israel? And he did not perish alone for his iniquity.’”

⁴⁶ And Moses said to Aaron, “Take your censer, and put fire on it from off the altar and lay incense on it and carry it quickly to the congregation and make atonement for them, for ^(A)wrath has gone out from the Lord; the plague has begun.”
