4 Minä vannotan sinua Jumalan ja Kristuksen Jeesuksen edessä, joka on tuomitseva eläviä ja kuolleita, sekä hänen ilmestymisensä että hänen valtakuntansa kautta:
2 saarnaa sanaa, astu esiin sopivalla ja sopimattomalla ajalla, nuhtele, varoita, kehoita, kaikella pitkämielisyydellä ja opetuksella.
3 Sillä aika tulee, jolloin he eivät kärsi tervettä oppia, vaan omien himojensa mukaan korvasyyhyynsä haalivat itselleen opettajia
4 ja kääntävät korvansa pois totuudesta ja kääntyvät taruihin.
5 Mutta ole sinä raitis kaikessa, kärsi vaivaa, tee evankelistan työ, toimita virkasi täydellisesti.
6 Sillä minut jo uhrataan, ja minun lähtöni aika on jo tullut.
7 Minä olen hyvän kilvoituksen kilvoitellut, juoksun päättänyt, uskon säilyttänyt.
8 Tästedes on minulle talletettuna vanhurskauden seppele, jonka Herra, vanhurskas tuomari, on antava minulle sinä päivänä, eikä ainoastaan minulle, vaan myös kaikille, jotka hänen ilmestymistään rakastavat.
9 Koeta päästä pian tulemaan luokseni.
10 Sillä tähän nykyiseen maailmaan rakastuneena jätti minut Deemas ja matkusti Tessalonikaan, Kreskes meni Galatiaan ja Tiitus Dalmatiaan.
11 Luukas yksin on minun kanssani. Ota Markus mukaasi ja tuo hänet tänne, sillä hän on minulle hyvin tarpeellinen palvelukseen.
12 Mutta Tykikuksen minä olen lähettänyt Efesoon.
13 Tuo tullessasi päällysvaippa, jonka jätin Trooaaseen Karpuksen luo, ja kirjat, ennen kaikkea pergamentit.
14 Aleksander, vaskiseppä, on tehnyt minulle paljon pahaa; Herra on maksava hänelle hänen tekojensa mukaan.
15 Kavahda sinäkin häntä, sillä hän on kovin vastustanut meidän sanojamme.
16 Ensi kertaa puolustautuessani ei kukaan tullut avukseni, vaan kaikki jättivät minut; älköön sitä heille syyksi luettako.
17 Mutta Herra auttoi minua ja vahvisti minua, että sanan julistaminen minun kauttani tulisi täydelleen suoritetuksi, ja kaikki pakanat sen kuulisivat; ja minä pelastuin jalopeuran kidasta.
18 Ja Herra on vapahtava minut kaikesta ilkivallasta ja pelastava minut taivaalliseen valtakuntaansa; hänelle kunnia aina ja iankaikkisesti! Amen.
19 Tervehdys Priskalle ja Akylaalle ja Onesiforuksen huonekunnalle.
20 Erastus jäi Korinttoon, mutta Trofimuksen minä jätin Miletoon sairastamaan.
21 Koeta päästä tulemaan ennen talvea. Tervehdyksen lähettävät sinulle Eubulus ja Pudes ja Linus ja Klaudia ja kaikki veljet.

4 In the presence of God and of Christ Jesus, who will judge the living and the dead,(A) and in view of his appearing(B) and his kingdom, I give you this charge:(C) 2 Preach(D) the word;(E) be prepared in season and out of season; correct, rebuke(F) and encourage(G)—with great patience and careful instruction. 3 For the time will come when people will not put up with sound doctrine.(H) Instead, to suit their own desires, they will gather around them a great number of teachers to say what their itching ears want to hear.(I) 4 They will turn their ears away from the truth and turn aside to myths.(J) 5 But you, keep your head in all situations, endure hardship,(K) do the work of an evangelist,(L) discharge all the duties of your ministry.
6 For I am already being poured out like a drink offering,(M) and the time for my departure is near.(N) 7 I have fought the good fight,(O) I have finished the race,(P) I have kept the faith. 8 Now there is in store for me(Q) the crown of righteousness,(R) which the Lord, the righteous Judge, will award to me on that day(S)—and not only to me, but also to all who have longed for his appearing.(T)

9 Do your best to come to me quickly,(U) 10 for Demas,(V) because he loved this world,(W) has deserted me and has gone to Thessalonica.(X) Crescens has gone to Galatia,(Y) and Titus(Z) to Dalmatia. 11 Only Luke(AA) is with me.(AB) Get Mark(AC) and bring him with you, because he is helpful to me in my ministry. 12 I sent Tychicus(AD) to Ephesus.(AE) 13 When you come, bring the cloak that I left with Carpus at Troas,(AF) and my scrolls, especially the parchments.
14 Alexander(AG) the metalworker did me a great deal of harm. The Lord will repay him for what he has done.(AH) 15 You too should be on your guard against him, because he strongly opposed our message.
16 At my first defense, no one came to my support, but everyone deserted me. May it not be held against them.(AI) 17 But the Lord stood at my side(AJ) and gave me strength,(AK) so that through me the message might be fully proclaimed and all the Gentiles might hear it.(AL) And I was delivered from the lion’s mouth.(AM) 18 The Lord will rescue me from every evil attack(AN) and will bring me safely to his heavenly kingdom.(AO) To him be glory for ever and ever. Amen.(AP)
