²⁴ Because ^(A)I called and you ^(B)refused,
I ^(C)stretched out my hand and no one paid attention;

² Why was there ^(A)no one when I came?
When I called, why was there no one to answer?
Is My ^(B)hand so short that it cannot redeem?
Or do I have no power to rescue?
Behold, I ^(C)dry up the sea with My rebuke,
I ^(D)turn rivers into a wilderness;
Their fish stink for lack of water,
And die of thirst.

⁴ So I will ^(A)choose their ^[a]punishments
And ^(B)bring on them what they dread.
Because I called, but ^(C)no one answered;
I spoke, but they did not listen.
Instead, they did ^(D)evil in My sight
And chose that in which I did not delight.”
