From Abraham to Jacob

28 The sons of Abraham: (I)Isaac and (J)Ishmael. 29 (K)These are their genealogies: the firstborn of Ishmael, Nebaioth, and Kedar, Adbeel, Mibsam, 30 Mishma, Dumah, Massa, Hadad, Tema, 31 Jetur, Naphish, and Kedemah. These are the sons of Ishmael. 32 (L)The sons of Keturah, Abraham's concubine: she bore Zimran, Jokshan, Medan, Midian, Ishbak, and Shuah. The sons of Jokshan: Sheba and Dedan. 33 The sons of Midian: Ephah, Epher, Hanoch, Abida, and Eldaah. All these were the descendants of Keturah.

34 Abraham fathered (M)Isaac. The sons of Isaac: (N)Esau and (O)Israel. 35 (P)The sons of Esau: Eliphaz, Reuel, Jeush, Jalam, and Korah. 36 The sons of Eliphaz: Teman, Omar, Zepho, Gatam, Kenaz, and of Timna,[g] Amalek. 37 The sons of Reuel: Nahath, Zerah, Shammah, and Mizzah.

The chiefs of Edom were: chiefs Timna, Alvah, Jetheth, 52 Oholibamah, Elah, Pinon, 53 Kenaz, Teman, Mibzar, 54 Magdiel, and Iram; these are the chiefs of Edom.

A Genealogy of David

These are the sons of (U)Israel: (V)Reuben, Simeon, Levi, Judah, (W)Issachar, Zebulun, (X)Dan, (Y)Joseph, (Z)Benjamin, (AA)Naphtali, (AB)Gad, and Asher. (AC)The sons of Judah: (AD)Er, Onan and Shelah; these three Bath-shua the Canaanite bore to him. Now Er, Judah's firstborn, was evil in the sight of the Lord, and he put him to death. His daughter-in-law (AE)Tamar also bore him Perez and Zerah. Judah had five sons in all.

21 Afterward Hezron went in to the daughter of (BA)Machir the father of Gilead, whom he married when he was sixty years old, and she bore him Segub. 22 And Segub fathered Jair, who had twenty-three cities in the land of Gilead. 23 (BB)But Geshur and Aram took from them Havvoth-jair, Kenath, and its villages, sixty towns. All these were descendants of Machir, the father of Gilead. 24 After the death of Hezron, (BC)Caleb went in to Ephrathah,[q] the wife of Hezron his father, and she bore him (BD)Ashhur, the father of Tekoa.

25 The sons of (BE)Jerahmeel, the firstborn of Hezron: Ram, his firstborn, Bunah, Oren, Ozem, and Ahijah. 26 Jerahmeel also had another wife, whose name was Atarah; she was the mother of Onam. 27 The sons of Ram, the firstborn of Jerahmeel: Maaz, Jamin, and Eker. 28 The sons of Onam: Shammai and Jada. The sons of Shammai: Nadab and Abishur. 29 The name of Abishur's wife was Abihail, and she bore him Ahban and Molid. 30 The sons of Nadab: Seled and Appaim; and Seled died childless. 31 The son[r] of Appaim: Ishi. Descendants of Simeon

24 (DV)The sons of Simeon: Nemuel, Jamin, Jarib, Zerah, Shaul; 25 Shallum was his son, Mibsam his son, Mishma his son. 26 The sons of Mishma: Hammuel his son, Zaccur his son, Shimei his son. 27 Shimei had sixteen sons and six daughters; but his brothers did not have many children, (DW)nor did all their clan multiply (DX)like the men of Judah. 28 (DY)They lived in Beersheba, Moladah, Hazar-shual, 29 (DZ)Bilhah, Ezem, (EA)Tolad, 30 (EB)Bethuel, Hormah, Ziklag, 31 Beth-marcaboth, (EC)Hazar-susim, (ED)Beth-biri, and (EE)Shaaraim. 34 Meshobab, Jamlech, Joshah the son of Amaziah, 35 Joel, Jehu the son of Joshibiah, son of Seraiah, son of Asiel, 36 Elioenai, Jaakobah, Jeshohaiah, Asaiah, Adiel, Jesimiel, Benaiah, 37 Ziza the son of Shiphi, son of Allon, son of Jedaiah, son of Shimri, son of Shemaiah— 38 these mentioned by name were princes in their clans, (EG)and their fathers' houses increased greatly. 39 They journeyed to the entrance of (EH)Gedor, to the east side of the valley, to seek pasture for their flocks, 40 where they found rich, good pasture, and the land was very broad, (EI)quiet, and peaceful, for the former inhabitants there belonged to Ham. 41 (EJ)These, registered by name, came in the days of Hezekiah, king of Judah, and destroyed their tents and the Meunites who were found there, and marked them for destruction to this day, (EK)and settled in their place, because there was pasture there for their flocks. 42 And some of them, five hundred men of the Simeonites, went to (EL)Mount Seir, having as their leaders Pelatiah, Neariah, Rephaiah, and Uzziel, the sons of Ishi. 43 And they defeated (EM)the remnant of the Amalekites who had escaped, and they have lived there to this day.

The sons of Reuben the firstborn of Israel ((EN)for he was the firstborn, but because (EO)he defiled his father's couch, (EP)his birthright was given to the sons of Joseph the son of Israel, so that he could not be enrolled as the oldest son; (EQ)though Judah became strong among his brothers and a (ER)chief came from him, yet the birthright belonged to Joseph), the (ES)sons of Reuben, the firstborn of Israel: Hanoch, Pallu, Hezron, and Carmi. The sons of Joel: Shemaiah his son, Gog his son, Shimei his son, Micah his son, Reaiah his son, Baal his son, Beerah his son, whom (ET)Tiglath-pileser[ai] king of Assyria carried away into exile; he was a chief of the Reubenites. And his kinsmen by their clans, (EU)when the genealogy of their generations was recorded: the chief, Jeiel, and Zechariah, and Bela the son of Azaz, son of (EV)Shema, son of Joel, who lived in (EW)Aroer, as far as (EX)Nebo and (EY)Baal-meon. Descendants of Gad

11 The sons of Gad lived over against them in the land of Bashan as far as (FB)Salecah: 12 Joel the chief, Shapham the second, Janai, and Shaphat in Bashan. 13 And their kinsmen according to their fathers' houses: Michael, Meshullam, Sheba, Jorai, Jacan, Zia and Eber, seven. 14 These were the sons of Abihail the son of Huri, son of Jaroah, son of Gilead, son of Michael, son of Jeshishai, son of Jahdo, son of Buz. 15 Ahi the son of Abdiel, son of Guni, was chief in their fathers' houses, 16 and they lived in Gilead, in Bashan and in its towns, and in all the pasturelands of (FC)Sharon to their limits. 17 All of these were recorded in genealogies in the days of (FD)Jotham king of Judah, and in the days of (FE)Jeroboam king of Israel.

18 The Reubenites, the Gadites, and the half-tribe of Manasseh had valiant men who carried shield and sword, and drew the bow, (FF)expert in war, 44,760, able to go to war. 19 They waged war against the (FG)Hagrites, (FH)Jetur, Naphish, and Nodab. 20 And when they prevailed[aj] over them, the Hagrites and all who were with them were given into their hands, (FI)for they cried out to God in the battle, and he granted their urgent plea (FJ)because they trusted in him. 21 They carried off their livestock: 50,000 of their camels, 250,000 sheep, 2,000 donkeys, and 100,000 men alive. 22 For many fell, because the war was of God. The Half-Tribe of Manasseh

23 The members of the half-tribe of Manasseh lived in the land. They were very numerous from Bashan to Baal-hermon, (FM)Senir, and Mount Hermon. 24 These were the heads of their fathers' houses: Epher,[ak] Ishi, Eliel, Azriel, Jeremiah, Hodaviah, and Jahdiel, mighty warriors, famous men, heads of their fathers' houses. 25 But they broke faith with the God of their fathers, and (FN)whored (FO)after the gods of the peoples of the land, whom God had destroyed before them. 26 So the God of Israel stirred up the spirit of (FP)Pul king of Assyria, the spirit of (FQ)Tiglath-pileser king of Assyria, and he took them into exile, namely, the Reubenites, the Gadites, and the half-tribe of Manasseh, and brought them (FR)to Halah, (FS)Habor, Hara, and (FT)the river Gozan, to this day.

Caleb Son of Hezron

18 Caleb son of Hezron had children by his wife Azubah (and by Jerioth). These were her sons: Jesher, Shobab and Ardon. 19 When Azubah died, Caleb(BD) married Ephrath, who bore him Hur. 20 Hur was the father of Uri, and Uri the father of Bezalel.(BE)

21 Later, Hezron, when he was sixty years old, married the daughter of Makir the father of Gilead.(BF) He made love to her, and she bore him Segub. 22 Segub was the father of Jair, who controlled twenty-three towns in Gilead. 23 (But Geshur and Aram captured Havvoth Jair,[w](BG) as well as Kenath(BH) with its surrounding settlements—sixty towns.) All these were descendants of Makir the father of Gilead.

24 After Hezron died in Caleb Ephrathah, Abijah the wife of Hezron bore him Ashhur(BI) the father[x] of Tekoa.

25 The sons of Jerahmeel the firstborn of Hezron:

Ram his firstborn, Bunah, Oren, Ozem and[y] Ahijah. 26 Jerahmeel had another wife, whose name was Atarah; she was the mother of Onam.

27 The sons of Ram the firstborn of Jerahmeel:

Bethlehem, the Netophathites,(BS) Atroth Beth Joab, half the Manahathites, the Zorites, 55 and the clans of scribes[aa] who lived at Jabez: the Tirathites, Shimeathites and Sucathites. These are the Kenites(BT) who came from Hammath,(BU) the father of the Rekabites.[ab](BV)

Jezreel, Ishma and Idbash. Their sister was named Hazzelelponi. Penuel was the father of Gedor, and Ezer the father of Hushah.

Ashhur(DL) the father of Tekoa had two wives, Helah and Naarah.

Jabez was more honorable than his brothers. Let your hand be with me, and keep me from harm so that I will be free from pain.” And God granted his request.

11 Kelub, Shuhah’s brother, was the father of Mehir, who was the father of Eshton. 12 Eshton was the father of Beth Rapha, Paseah and Tehinnah the father of Ir Nahash.[ak] These were the men of Rekah.

13 The sons of Kenaz:

Othniel(DM) and Seraiah.

The sons of Othniel:

Hathath and Meonothai.[al] 14 Meonothai was the father of Ophrah.

Seraiah was the father of Joab,

the father of Ge Harashim.[am] It was called this because its people were skilled workers.

Iru, Elah and Naam.

The son of Elah:

Jether, Mered, Epher and Jalon. One of Mered’s wives gave birth to Miriam,(DN) Shammai and Ishbah the father of Eshtemoa. 18 (His wife from the tribe of Judah gave birth to Jered the father of Gedor, Heber the father of Soko, and Jekuthiel the father of Zanoah.(DO)) These were the children of Pharaoh’s daughter Bithiah, whom Mered had married.

19 The sons of Hodiah’s wife, the sister of Naham:

the father of Keilah(DP) the Garmite, and Eshtemoa the Maakathite.(DQ)

Amnon, Rinnah, Ben-Hanan and Tilon.

21 The sons of Shelah(DR) son of Judah:

Er the father of Lekah, Laadah the father of Mareshah and the clans of the linen workers at Beth Ashbea, 22 Jokim, the men of Kozeba, and Joash and Saraph, who ruled in Moab and Jashubi Lehem. (These records are from ancient times.) 23 They were the potters who lived at Netaim and Gederah; they stayed there and worked for the king.

Simeon(DS)

24 The descendants of Simeon:(DT)

Nemuel, Jamin, Jarib,(DU) Zerah and Shaul;

25 Shallum was Shaul’s son, Mibsam his son and Mishma his son.

26 The descendants of Mishma:

Hammuel his son, Zakkur his son and Shimei his son.

27 Shimei had sixteen sons and six daughters, but his brothers did not have many children; so their entire clan did not become as numerous as the people of Judah. 28 They lived in Beersheba,(DV) Moladah,(DW) Hazar Shual, 29 Bilhah, Ezem,(DX) Tolad, 30 Bethuel, Hormah,(DY) Ziklag,(DZ) 31 Beth Markaboth, Hazar Susim, Beth Biri and Shaaraim.(EA) These were their towns until the reign of David. 32 Their surrounding villages were Etam, Ain,(EB) Rimmon, Token and Ashan(EC)—five towns— 33 and all the villages around these towns as far as Baalath.[an] These were their settlements. And they kept a genealogical record.

34 Meshobab, Jamlech, Joshah son of Amaziah, 35 Joel, Jehu son of Joshibiah, the son of Seraiah, the son of Asiel, 36 also Elioenai, Jaakobah, Jeshohaiah, Asaiah, Adiel, Jesimiel, Benaiah, 37 and Ziza son of Shiphi, the son of Allon, the son of Jedaiah, the son of Shimri, the son of Shemaiah.

38 The men listed above by name were leaders of their clans. Their families increased greatly, 39 and they went to the outskirts of Gedor(ED) to the east of the valley in search of pasture for their flocks. 40 They found rich, good pasture, and the land was spacious, peaceful and quiet.(EE) Some Hamites had lived there formerly.

41 The men whose names were listed came in the days of Hezekiah king of Judah. They attacked the Hamites in their dwellings and also the Meunites(EF) who were there and completely destroyed[ao] them, as is evident to this day. Then they settled in their place, because there was pasture for their flocks. 42 And five hundred of these Simeonites, led by Pelatiah, Neariah, Rephaiah and Uzziel, the sons of Ishi, invaded the hill country of Seir.(EG) 43 They killed the remaining Amalekites(EH) who had escaped, and they have lived there to this day.

Reuben

The sons of Reuben(EI) the firstborn of Israel (he was the firstborn, but when he defiled his father’s marriage bed,(EJ) his rights as firstborn were given to the sons of Joseph(EK) son of Israel;(EL) so he could not be listed in the genealogical record in accordance with his birthright,(EM) and though Judah(EN) was the strongest of his brothers and a ruler(EO) came from him, the rights of the firstborn(EP) belonged to Joseph)— the sons of Reuben(EQ) the firstborn of Israel:

Hanok, Pallu,(ER) Hezron(ES) and Karmi.

The descendants of Joel:

Shemaiah his son, Gog his son,

Shimei his son, Micah his son,

Reaiah his son, Baal his son,

10 During Saul’s reign they waged war against the Hagrites(FA), who were defeated at their hands; they occupied the dwellings of the Hagrites throughout the entire region east of Gilead.

Gad

11 The Gadites(FB) lived next to them in Bashan, as far as Salekah:(FC)

12 Joel was the chief, Shapham the second, then Janai and Shaphat, in Bashan.

13 Their relatives, by families, were:

Michael, Meshullam, Sheba, Jorai, Jakan, Zia and Eber—seven in all.

14 These were the sons of Abihail son of Huri, the son of Jaroah, the son of Gilead, the son of Michael, the son of Jeshishai, the son of Jahdo, the son of Buz.

15 Ahi son of Abdiel, the son of Guni, was head of their family.

16 The Gadites lived in Gilead, in Bashan and its outlying villages, and on all the pasturelands of Sharon as far as they extended.

17 All these were entered in the genealogical records during the reigns of Jotham(FD) king of Judah and Jeroboam(FE) king of Israel.

18 The Reubenites, the Gadites and the half-tribe of Manasseh had 44,760 men ready for military service(FF)—able-bodied men who could handle shield and sword, who could use a bow, and who were trained for battle. 19 They waged war against the Hagrites, Jetur,(FG) Naphish and Nodab. 20 They were helped(FH) in fighting them, and God delivered the Hagrites and all their allies into their hands, because they cried(FI) out to him during the battle. He answered their prayers, because they trusted(FJ) in him. 21 They seized the livestock of the Hagrites—fifty thousand camels, two hundred fifty thousand sheep and two thousand donkeys. They also took one hundred thousand people captive, 22 and many others fell slain, because the battle(FK) was God’s. And they occupied the land until the exile.(FL)

The Half-Tribe of Manasseh

23 The people of the half-tribe of Manasseh(FM) were numerous; they settled in the land from Bashan to Baal Hermon, that is, to Senir (Mount Hermon).(FN)

24 These were the heads of their families: Epher, Ishi, Eliel, Azriel, Jeremiah, Hodaviah and Jahdiel. They were brave warriors, famous men, and heads of their families. 25 But they were unfaithful(FO) to the God of their ancestors and prostituted(FP) themselves to the gods of the peoples of the land, whom God had destroyed before them. 26 So the God of Israel stirred up the spirit(FQ) of Pul(FR) king of Assyria (that is, Tiglath-Pileser(FS) king of Assyria), who took the Reubenites, the Gadites and the half-tribe of Manasseh into exile. He took them to Halah,(FT) Habor, Hara and the river of Gozan, where they are to this day.
