1 Samuel 2:6-10New American Standard Bible (NASB)

The Lord kills and makes alive;
He brings down to [a]Sheol and raises up.
The Lord makes poor and rich;
He brings low, He also exalts.
He raises the poor from the dust,
He lifts the needy from the ash heap
To make them sit with nobles,
And inherit a seat of honor;
For the pillars of the earth are the Lord’s,
And He set the world on them.
He keeps the feet of His godly ones,
But the wicked ones are silenced in darkness;
For not by might shall a man prevail.
10 Those who contend with the Lord will be shattered;
Against them He will thunder in the heavens,
The Lord will judge the ends of the earth;
And He will give strength to His king,
And will exalt the [b]horn of His anointed.”

1 Samuel 2:6-10New International Version (NIV)

“The Lord brings death and makes alive;
    he brings down to the grave and raises up.
The Lord sends poverty and wealth;
    he humbles and he exalts.
He raises the poor from the dust
    and lifts the needy from the ash heap;
he seats them with princes
    and has them inherit a throne of honor.

“For the foundations of the earth are the Lord’s;
    on them he has set the world.
He will guard the feet of his faithful servants,
    but the wicked will be silenced in the place of darkness.

“It is not by strength that one prevails;
10     those who oppose the Lord will be broken.
The Most High will thunder from heaven;
    the Lord will judge the ends of the earth.

“He will give strength to his king
    and exalt the horn of his anointed.”

  1. 1 Samuel 2:10 This would first apply to Saul, whom Samuel would anoint as king of Israel (10:1), and then to David (16:13) and other earthly kings. Ultimately it can be applied to Christ, who will rule over Israel and the world.

1 Samuel 2:6-10Almeida Revista e Corrigida 2009 (ARC)

O Senhor é o que tira a vida e a dá; faz descer à sepultura e faz tornar a subir dela.

“O Senhor mata e preserva a vida;
    ele faz descer à sepultura[a] e dela resgata.
O Senhor é quem dá
    pobreza e riqueza;
ele humilha e exalta.
Levanta do pó o necessitado
    e do monte de cinzas ergue o pobre;
ele os faz sentar-se com príncipes
    e lhes dá lugar de honra.

“Pois os alicerces da terra
    são do Senhor;
sobre eles estabeleceu o mundo.
Ele guardará os pés dos seus santos,
mas os ímpios
    serão silenciados nas trevas,
pois não é pela força
    que o homem prevalece.
10 Aqueles que se opõem ao Senhor
    serão despedaçados.
Ele trovejará do céu contra eles;
    o Senhor julgará
    até os confins da terra.

“Ele dará poder a seu rei
e exaltará a força do seu ungido”.
