Saul among the Prophets

10 Then ^(A)Samuel took the flask of oil, poured it on ^[a]Saul’s head, ^(B)kissed him, and said, “Has ^(C)the Lord not anointed you as ruler over ^(D)His inheritance?

³ And you shall invite Jesse to the sacrifice, and ^(A)I will let you know what you shall do; and ^(B)you shall anoint for Me the one whom I ^[a]designate to you.”

David Anointed

¹² So he sent word and brought him in. Now he was ^[a]reddish, with ^(A)beautiful eyes and a handsome appearance. And the Lord said, “^(B)Arise, anoint him; for this is he.”

³ So all the elders of Israel came to the king at Hebron, and King David ^(A)made a covenant with them before the Lord in Hebron; then ^(B)they anointed David king over Israel.

¹⁶ You shall also anoint ^(A)Jehu the son of Nimshi king over Israel; and you shall anoint ^(B)Elisha the son of Shaphat of Abel-meholah as prophet in your place.

³ Then take the flask of oil and pour it on his head, and say, ‘This is what the Lord says: “^(A)I have anointed you king over Israel.”’ Then open the door and flee, and do not wait.”
