⁶ But when they said, “Give us a king^(A) to lead us,” this displeased^(B) Samuel; so he prayed to the Lord.

¹¹ “I regret^(A) that I have made Saul king, because he has turned^(B) away from me and has not carried out my instructions.”^(C) Samuel was angry,^(D) and he cried out to the Lord all that night.

⁵ If any of you lacks wisdom, you should ask God,^(A) who gives generously to all without finding fault, and it will be given to you.^(B)

¹⁷ Is it not wheat harvest^(A) now? I will call^(B) on the Lord to send thunder^(C) and rain.^(D) And you will realize what an evil^(E) thing you did in the eyes of the Lord when you asked for a king.”

¹¹ But the Pharisees and the teachers of the law were furious^(A) and began to discuss with one another what they might do to Jesus.

The Twelve Apostles^(B)

¹² One of those days Jesus went out to a mountainside to pray, and spent the night praying to God.^(C)

³ When I heard this, I tore^(A) my tunic and cloak, pulled hair from my head and beard and sat down appalled.^{(B) 4} Then everyone who trembled^(C) at the words of the God of Israel gathered around me because of this unfaithfulness of the exiles. And I sat there appalled^(D) until the evening sacrifice.

⁵ Then, at the evening sacrifice,^(E) I rose from my self-abasement, with my tunic and cloak torn, and fell on my knees with my hands^(F) spread out to the Lord my God

⁴⁶ Then Moses said to Aaron, “Take your censer^(A) and put incense in it, along with burning coals from the altar, and hurry to the assembly^(B) to make atonement^(C) for them. Wrath has come out from the Lord;^(D) the plague^(E) has started.”

²² But Moses and Aaron fell facedown^(A) and cried out, “O God, the God who gives breath to all living things,^(B) will you be angry with the entire assembly^(C) when only one man sins?”^(D)
