²⁰ And the people of Beth Shemesh asked, “Who can stand^(A) in the presence of the Lord, this holy^(B) God? To whom will the ark go up from here?”

⁹ David was afraid of the Lord that day and said, “How^(A) can the ark of the Lord ever come to me?”

² But who can endure^(A) the day of his coming?^(B) Who can stand^(C) when he appears? For he will be like a refiner’s fire^(D) or a launderer’s soap.^(E)

¹⁷ For the great day^(A) of their^[a] wrath has come, and who can withstand it?”^(B)

³⁷ Then all the people of the region of the Gerasenes asked Jesus to leave them,^(A) because they were overcome with fear. So he got into the boat and left.

⁸ When Simon Peter saw this, he fell at Jesus’ knees and said, “Go away from me, Lord; I am a sinful man!”^(A)

¹¹ Then David was angry because the Lord’s wrath had broken out against Uzzah, and to this day that place is called Perez Uzzah.^[a](A)

¹² David was afraid of God that day and asked, “How can I ever bring the ark of God to me?” ¹³ He did not take the ark to be with him in the City of David. Instead, he took it to the house of Obed-Edom^(B) the Gittite.

⁷ The Lord’s anger burned against Uzzah because of his irreverent act;^(A) therefore God struck him down,^(B) and he died there beside the ark of God.
