⁴ Then the Lord called Samuel.

Samuel answered, “Here I am.^(A)”

⁶ There are different kinds of working, but in all of them and in everyone^(A) it is the same God^(B) at work.

⁷ Now to each one the manifestation of the Spirit is given for the common good.^{(C) 8} To one there is given through the Spirit a message of wisdom,^(D) to another a message of knowledge^(E) by means of the same Spirit, ⁹ to another faith^(F) by the same Spirit, to another gifts of healing^(G) by that one Spirit, ¹⁰ to another miraculous powers,^(H) to another prophecy,^(I) to another distinguishing between spirits,^(J) to another speaking in different kinds of tongues,^[a](K) and to still another the interpretation of tongues.^{[b] 11} All these are the work of one and the same Spirit,^(L) and he distributes them to each one, just as he determines.

⁸ Then I heard the voice^(A) of the Lord saying, “Whom shall I send?^(B) And who will go for us?^(C)”

And I said, “Here am I.^(D) Send me!”

⁴ When the Lord saw that he had gone over to look, God called^(A) to him from within the bush,^(B) “Moses! Moses!”

And Moses said, “Here I am.”^(C)

Abraham Tested

22 Some time later God tested^(A) Abraham. He said to him, “Abraham!”

“Here I am,”^(B) he replied.

¹⁵ But when God, who set me apart from my mother’s womb^(A) and called me^(B) by his grace, was pleased ¹⁶ to reveal his Son in me so that I might preach him among the Gentiles,^(C) my immediate response was not to consult any human being.^(D)

²⁸ And God has placed in the church^(A) first of all apostles,^(B) second prophets,^(C) third teachers, then miracles, then gifts of healing,^(D) of helping, of guidance,^(E) and of different kinds of tongues.^(F)

⁴ He fell to the ground and heard a voice^(A) say to him, “Saul, Saul, why do you persecute me?”
