¹⁴ Therefore I swore to the house of Eli, ‘The guilt of Eli’s house will never be atoned^(A) for by sacrifice or offering.’”

¹⁴ The Lord Almighty has revealed this in my hearing:^(A) “Till your dying day this sin will not be atoned^(B) for,” says the Lord, the Lord Almighty.

²⁵ If one person sins against another, God^[a] may mediate for the offender; but if anyone sins against the Lord, who will^(A) intercede^(B) for them?” His sons, however, did not listen to their father’s rebuke, for it was the Lord’s will to put them to death.

²⁶ If we deliberately keep on sinning^(A) after we have received the knowledge of the truth,^(B) no sacrifice for sins is left, ²⁷ but only a fearful expectation of judgment and of raging fire^(C) that will consume the enemies of God. ²⁸ Anyone who rejected the law of Moses died without mercy on the testimony of two or three witnesses.^{(D) 29} How much more severely do you think someone deserves to be punished who has trampled the Son of God^(E) underfoot,^(F) who has treated as an unholy thing the blood of the covenant^(G) that sanctified them,^(H) and who has insulted the Spirit^(I) of grace?^{(J) 30} For we know him who said, “It is mine to avenge; I will repay,”^[a](K) and again, “The Lord will judge his people.”^{[b](L) 31} It is a dreadful thing^(M) to fall into the hands^(N) of the living God.^(O)

⁴ It is impossible for the blood of bulls and goats^(A) to take away sins.^(B)

⁵ Therefore, when Christ came into the world,^(C) he said:

⁸ First he said, “Sacrifices and offerings, burnt offerings and sin offerings you did not desire, nor were you pleased with them”^(G)—though they were offered in accordance with the law. ⁹ Then he said, “Here I am, I have come to do your will.”^(H) He sets aside the first to establish the second. ¹⁰ And by that will, we have been made holy^(I) through the sacrifice of the body^(J) of Jesus Christ once for all.^(K)

15 Then the Lord said to me: “Even if Moses^(A) and Samuel^(B) were to stand before me, my heart would not go out to this people.^(C) Send them away from my presence!^(D) Let them go!

¹⁶ “So do not pray for this people nor offer any plea^(A) or petition for them; do not plead with me, for I will not listen^(B) to you.

³⁰ “‘But anyone who sins defiantly,^(A) whether native-born or foreigner,^(B) blasphemes the Lord^(C) and must be cut off from the people of Israel.^{(D) 31} Because they have despised^(E) the Lord’s word and broken his commands,^(F) they must surely be cut off; their guilt remains on them.^(G)’”
