¹⁰ But Saul swore to her by the Lord, “As the Lord lives, no punishment shall come upon you for this thing.”

²³ And he swore^[a] to her, “Whatever you ask me, I will give you, even half of my kingdom.”^(A)

⁷² Again he denied it with an oath, “I do not know the man.”

¹¹ Then she said, “Please, may the king keep the Lord your God in mind, so that the avenger of blood may kill no more and my son not be destroyed.” He said, “As the Lord lives, not one hair of your son shall fall to the ground.”^(A)

⁶ Saul heeded the voice of Jonathan; Saul swore, “As the Lord lives, he shall not be put to death.”

³⁹ For as the Lord lives who saves Israel, even if it is in my son Jonathan, he shall surely die!” But there was no one among all the people who answered him.^(A)

¹⁰ No one shall be found among you who makes a son or daughter pass through fire, or who practices divination, or is a soothsayer, or an augur, or a sorcerer,^{(A) 11} or one who casts spells, or who consults ghosts or spirits, or who seeks oracles from the dead. ¹² For whoever does these things is abhorrent to the Lord; it is because of such abhorrent practices that the Lord your God is driving them out before you.^(B)

⁷ “You shall not make wrongful use of the name of the Lord your God, for the Lord will not acquit anyone who misuses his name.^(A)

⁵ for God knows that when you eat of it your eyes will be opened, and you will be like God,^[a] knowing good and evil.”
