David and the Wife of Nabal

² Now there was a man ^(A)in Maon whose business was in ^(B)Carmel, and the man was very rich. He had three thousand sheep and a thousand goats. And he was shearing his sheep in Carmel.

²⁴ So they arose and went to Ziph before Saul. But David and his men were in the Wilderness ^(A)of Maon, in the plain on the south of Jeshimon.

¹³ And it was told Tamar, saying, “Look, your father-in-law is going up ^(A)to Timnah to shear his sheep.”

The Rich Man and Lazarus

¹⁹ “There was a certain rich man who was clothed in purple and fine linen and ^[a]fared sumptuously every day. ²⁰ But there was a certain beggar named Lazarus, full of sores, who was laid at his gate, ²¹ desiring to be fed with ^[b]the crumbs which fell from the rich man’s table. Moreover the dogs came and licked his sores. ²² So it was that the beggar died, and was carried by the angels to ^(A)Abraham’s bosom. The rich man also died and was buried. ²³ And being in torments in Hades, he lifted up his eyes and saw Abraham afar off, and Lazarus in his bosom.

²⁴ “Then he cried and said, ‘Father Abraham, have mercy on me, and send Lazarus that he may dip the tip of his finger in water and ^(B)cool my tongue; for I ^(C)am tormented in this flame.’ ²⁵ But Abraham said, ‘Son, ^(D)remember that in your lifetime you received your good things, and likewise Lazarus evil things; but now he is comforted and you are tormented.

¹² Now the Lord blessed ^(A)the latter days of Job more than his beginning; for he had ^(B)fourteen thousand sheep, six thousand camels, one thousand yoke of oxen, and one thousand female donkeys.

³ Also, his possessions were seven thousand sheep, three thousand camels, five hundred yoke of oxen, five hundred female donkeys, and a very large household, so that this man was the greatest of all the ^[a]people of the East.

³² Now Barzillai was a very aged man, eighty years old. And ^(A)he had provided the king with supplies while he stayed at Mahanaim, for he was a very rich man.
