² And there was a man in ^(A)Maon whose business was in ^(B)Carmel. The man was very rich; he had three thousand sheep and a thousand goats. ^(C)He was shearing his sheep in Carmel.

²⁴ And they arose and went to Ziph ahead of Saul.

Now David and his men were ^(A)in the wilderness of Maon, ^(B)in the Arabah to the south of ^(C)Jeshimon.

¹³ And when Tamar was told, “Your father-in-law is going up to Timnah to shear his sheep,”

The Rich Man and Lazarus

¹⁹ “There was a rich man who was clothed in ^(A)purple and fine linen and ^(B)who feasted sumptuously every day. ²⁰ And at his gate ^(C)was laid a poor man named Lazarus, covered with sores, ²¹ who desired to be fed with ^(D)what fell from the rich man's table. Moreover, even the dogs came and licked his sores. ²² The poor man died and was carried by ^(E)the angels ^(F)to Abraham's side.^[a] The rich man also died and was buried, ²³ and in ^(G)Hades, being in torment, he lifted up his eyes and ^(H)saw Abraham far off and Lazarus ^(I)at his side. ²⁴ And he called out, ^(J)‘Father Abraham, have mercy on me, and send Lazarus to dip the end of his finger in water and ^(K)cool my tongue, for ^(L)I am in anguish in this flame.’ ²⁵ But Abraham said, ‘Child, remember that ^(M)you in your lifetime received your good things, and Lazarus in like manner bad things; but now he is comforted here, and you are in anguish.

¹² And the Lord blessed ^(A)the latter days of Job more than his beginning. And he had ^(B)14,000 sheep, 6,000 camels, 1,000 yoke of oxen, and 1,000 female donkeys.

³ He possessed 7,000 sheep, 3,000 camels, 500 yoke of oxen, and 500 female donkeys, and very many servants, so that this man was the greatest of all ^(A)the people of the east.

³² Barzillai was a very aged man, eighty years old. ^(A)He had provided the king with food while he stayed at Mahanaim, for he was a very wealthy man.
