³⁶ And everyone who is left in your house shall come to implore him for a piece of silver or a loaf of bread and shall say, “Please put me in one of the priests' places, that I may eat a morsel of bread.”’”

^27 (A)So Solomon expelled Abiathar from being priest to the Lord, thus fulfilling ^(B)the word of the Lord that he had spoken concerning the house of Eli in Shiloh.

¹³ But you say, ^(A)‘What a weariness this is,’ and you snort at it, says the Lord of hosts. ^(B)You bring what has been taken by violence or is lame or sick, and this you bring as your offering! Shall I accept that from your hand? says the Lord.

¹⁰ But ^(A)the Levites who went far from me, going astray from me after their idols ^(B)when Israel went astray, ^(C)shall bear their punishment.^{[a] 11} They shall be ^(D)ministers in my sanctuary, having oversight ^(E)at the gates of the temple and ministering in the temple. They shall slaughter the burnt offering and the sacrifice for the people, and ^(F)they shall stand before the people, to minister to them. ¹² Because they ministered to them before their idols and became ^(G)a stumbling block of iniquity to the house of Israel, therefore I have ^(H)sworn concerning them, declares the Lord God, and they shall bear their punishment.

²⁹ Why then do you ^(A)scorn^[a] my sacrifices and my offerings that I commanded for my dwelling, and honor your sons above me by fattening yourselves on the choicest parts of every offering of my people Israel?’ ³⁰ Therefore the Lord, the God of Israel, declares: ^(B)‘I promised that your house and the house of your father should go in and out before me forever,’ ^(C)but now the Lord declares: ‘Far be it from me, for those who honor me I will honor, and those who despise me shall be lightly esteemed.
