¹³ So Samuel took the horn of oil and anointed^(A) him in the presence of his brothers, and from that day on the Spirit of the Lord^(B) came powerfully upon David.^(C) Samuel then went to Ramah.

⁶ The Spirit^(A) of the Lord will come powerfully upon you, and you will prophesy with them; and you will be changed^(B) into a different person.

⁹ As Saul turned to leave Samuel, God changed^(A) Saul’s heart, and all these signs^(B) were fulfilled^(C) that day. ¹⁰ When he and his servant arrived at Gibeah, a procession of prophets met him; the Spirit^(D) of God came powerfully upon him, and he joined in their prophesying.^(E)

10 Then Samuel took a flask^(A) of olive oil and poured it on Saul’s head and kissed him, saying, “Has not the Lord anointed^(B) you ruler over his inheritance?^[a](C)

³⁴ For the one whom God has sent^(A) speaks the words of God, for God^[a] gives the Spirit^(B) without limit.

²⁹ Then the Spirit^(A) of the Lord came on Jephthah. He crossed Gilead and Manasseh, passed through Mizpah^(B) of Gilead, and from there he advanced against the Ammonites.^(C)

¹⁰ The Spirit of the Lord came on him,^(A) so that he became Israel’s judge^[a] and went to war. The Lord gave Cushan-Rishathaim^(B) king of Aram^(C) into the hands of Othniel, who overpowered him.

¹⁸ So the Lord said to Moses, “Take Joshua son of Nun, a man in whom is the spirit of leadership,^[a](A) and lay your hand on him.^(B)
