³ For the time that is past ^(A)suffices ^(B)for doing what the Gentiles want to do, living in sensuality, passions, drunkenness, orgies, drinking parties, and lawless idolatry.

¹⁸ And ^(A)do not get drunk with wine, for that is ^(B)debauchery, but ^(C)be filled with the Spirit,

¹¹ And ^(A)such were some of you. But ^(B)you were washed, ^(C)you were sanctified, ^(D)you were justified in the name of the Lord Jesus Christ and by the Spirit of our God.

⁵ not in ^(A)the passion of lust ^(B)like the Gentiles ^(C)who do not know God;

The New Life

¹⁷ Now this I say and ^(A)testify in the Lord, ^(B)that you must no longer walk as the Gentiles do, ^(C)in the futility of their minds. ¹⁸ They ^(D)are darkened in their understanding, ^(E)alienated from the life of God because of the ignorance that is in them, due to ^(F)their hardness of heart. ¹⁹ They ^(G)have become callous and ^(H)have given themselves up to sensuality, greedy to practice every kind of impurity.

⁴ The woman ^(A)was arrayed in purple and scarlet, and adorned ^(B)with gold and jewels and pearls, holding in her hand ^(C)a golden cup full of abominations and the impurities of her sexual immorality. ⁵ And on her forehead was written a name of ^(D)mystery: ^(E)“Babylon the great, mother of prostitutes and of earth's abominations.”

¹⁴ As obedient children, ^(A)do not be conformed to the passions ^(B)of your former ignorance,

^2 (A)in which you once walked, following the course of this world, following ^(B)the prince of the power of the air, the spirit that is now at work in ^(C)the sons of disobedience— ³ among whom we all once lived in ^(D)the passions of our flesh, carrying out the desires of the body^[a] and the mind, and ^(E)were by nature ^(F)children of wrath, like the rest of mankind.^[b]

²¹ envy,^[a] drunkenness, orgies, and things like these. I warn you, as I warned you before, that ^(A)those who do^[b] such things will not inherit the kingdom of God.
