David’s Instruction to Solomon
2 When David’s time to die drew near, he charged his son Solomon, saying: 2 “I am about to go the way of all the earth. Be strong, be courageous, 3 and keep the charge of the Lord your God, walking in his ways and keeping his statutes, his commandments, his ordinances, and his testimonies, as it is written in the law of Moses, so that you may prosper in all that you do and wherever you turn. 4 Then the Lord will establish his word that he spoke concerning me: ‘If your heirs take heed to their way, to walk before me in faithfulness with all their heart and with all their soul, there shall not fail you a successor on the throne of Israel.’
5 “Moreover you know also what Joab son of Zeruiah did to me, how he dealt with the two commanders of the armies of Israel, Abner son of Ner, and Amasa son of Jether, whom he murdered, retaliating in time of peace for blood that had been shed in war, and putting the blood of war on the belt around his waist, and on the sandals on his feet. 6 Act therefore according to your wisdom, but do not let his gray head go down to Sheol in peace. 7 Deal loyally, however, with the sons of Barzillai the Gileadite, and let them be among those who eat at your table; for with such loyalty they met me when I fled from your brother Absalom. 8 There is also with you Shimei son of Gera, the Benjaminite from Bahurim, who cursed me with a terrible curse on the day when I went to Mahanaim; but when he came down to meet me at the Jordan, I swore to him by the Lord, ‘I will not put you to death with the sword.’ 9 Therefore do not hold him guiltless, for you are a wise man; you will know what you ought to do to him, and you must bring his gray head down with blood to Sheol.”
Death of David
10 Then David slept with his ancestors, and was buried in the city of David. 11 The time that David reigned over Israel was forty years; he reigned seven years in Hebron, and thirty-three years in Jerusalem. 12 So Solomon sat on the throne of his father David; and his kingdom was firmly established.

2 «Io m’incammino per la via di tutti gli abitanti della terra; fortìficati e compòrtati da uomo! 3 Osserva quello che il Signore, il tuo Dio, ti ha comandato di osservare, camminando nelle sue vie e mettendo in pratica le sue leggi, i suoi comandamenti, i suoi precetti, i suoi insegnamenti, come sta scritto nella legge di Mosè, perché tu riesca in tutto ciò che farai e dovunque tu ti volga, 4 e affinché il Signore adempia la parola da lui pronunciata a mio riguardo quando disse: “Se i tuoi figli veglieranno sulla loro condotta camminando davanti a me con fedeltà, con tutto il cuore e con tutta l’anima loro, non ti mancherà mai qualcuno che sieda sul trono d’Israele”.
5 Sai anche tu quel che mi ha fatto Ioab, figlio di Seruia, quel che ha fatto ai due capi degli eserciti d’Israele, ad Abner, figlio di Ner, e ad Amasa, figlio di Ieter, che egli uccise, spargendo in tempo di pace sangue di guerra, e macchiando di sangue la cintura che portava ai fianchi e i calzari che portava ai piedi. 6 Agisci dunque secondo la tua saggezza, e non lasciare la sua canizie scendere in pace nel soggiorno dei morti.
7 Ma tratta con bontà i figli di Barzillai il Galaadita; siano tra quelli che mangiano alla tua mensa, poiché anch’essi mi trattarono così quando vennero da me mentre fuggivo davanti ad Absalom tuo fratello.
8 Tu hai vicino a te Simei, figlio di Ghera, il Beniaminita, di Baurim, il quale proferì contro di me una maledizione atroce il giorno che andavo a Maanaim. Ma egli scese a incontrarmi verso il Giordano, e io gli giurai per il Signore che non lo avrei fatto morire di spada. 9 Ma ora non lasciarlo impunito, perché sei saggio e sai quel che tu debba fargli. Farai scendere nel soggiorno dei morti la sua canizie tinta di sangue».
10 Davide si addormentò con i suoi padri e fu sepolto nella città di Davide. 11 Il tempo che Davide regnò sopra Israele fu di quarant’anni: regnò sette anni a Ebron e trentatré anni a Gerusalemme. 12 Salomone sedette sul trono di Davide, suo padre, e il suo regno fu saldamente stabilito.

2 Ich gehe hin den Weg aller Welt. So sei nun stark und sei ein Mann!
3 Und befolge die Anordnungen des Herrn, deines Gottes, dass du in seinen Wegen wandelst, seine Satzungen, seine Gebote, seine Rechte und seine Zeugnisse hältst, wie es im Gesetz Moses geschrieben steht, damit du Gelingen hast in allem, was du tust und wohin du dich wendest;
4 damit der Herr sein Wort bestätigt, das er über mich geredet hat, indem er sagte: »Wenn deine Söhne auf ihre Wege achten, dass sie in Wahrheit vor mir wandeln, mit ihrem ganzen Herzen und mit ihrer ganzen Seele, so soll es dir niemals — sprach er — an einem Mann fehlen auf dem Thron Israels!«
5 Du weißt aber auch, was mir Joab, der Sohn der Zeruja, getan hat, wie er an den beiden Heerführern Israels, an Abner, dem Sohn Ners, und an Amasa, dem Sohn Jeters, gehandelt hat, wie er sie umgebracht und so Kriegsblut [mitten] im Frieden vergossen und Kriegsblut an seinen Gürtel gebracht hat, der um seine Lenden war, und an seine Schuhe, die an seinen Füßen waren.
6 So handle nun nach deiner Weisheit, und lass seine grauen Haare nicht in Frieden ins Totenreich fahren!
7 Aber den Söhnen Barsillais, des Gileaditers, sollst du Güte erweisen, und sie sollen unter denen sein, die an deinem Tisch essen, denn ebenso hielten sie sich zu mir, als ich vor deinem Bruder Absalom floh.
8 Und siehe, du hast bei dir Simei, den Sohn Geras, den Benjaminiter, von Bachurim, der mir bitter und schändlich fluchte zu der Zeit, als ich nach Mahanajim ging. Als er aber dann an den Jordan herab mir entgegenkam, da schwor ich ihm bei dem Herrn und sprach: Ich will dich nicht mit dem Schwert töten!
9 Nun aber lass du ihn nicht ungestraft; denn du bist ein weiser Mann und wirst wohl wissen, was du ihm tun sollst, damit du seine grauen Haare mit Blut ins Totenreich hinunterbringst!
10 Und David legte sich zu seinen Vätern und wurde begraben in der Stadt Davids.
11 Die Zeit aber, die David über Israel regierte, betrug 40 Jahre. Sieben Jahre lang war er König in Hebron und 33 Jahre lang in Jerusalem.
12 Und Salomo saß auf dem Thron seines Vaters David, und sein Königtum war fest gegründet.

2 Közeledett Dávid halálának ideje, ezért hívatta Salamont, és ezt mondta neki: 2 „Fiam, én hamarosan elindulok azon az úton, amelyen minden embernek el kell mennie. Te azonban légy erős, és mutasd meg, hogy férfi vagy! 3 Amit Istened, az Örökkévaló rád bízott, abban légy hűséges, és járj az ő útjain! Tartsd meg törvényeit, rendelkezéseit, parancsait és döntéseit — ahogyan Mózes Törvényében meg van írva — hogy minden ügyedben és utadban sikeres légy! 4 Akkor az Örökkévaló beteljesíti, amit megígért nekem: »Ha a fiaid gondosan ügyelnek arra, hogyan élnek és cselekszenek, ha teljes szívvel-lélekkel és hűségesen járnak jelenlétemben, akkor Izráel királya mindig a te utódaid közül való lesz.«

2 David approchait de sa fin. Il fit ses dernières recommandations à son fils Salomon en ces termes[a] : 2 Voici que je vais bientôt prendre le chemin que suit tout homme. Montre-toi courageux et conduis-toi en homme !
3 Suis fidèlement les ordres de l’Eternel ton Dieu, en marchant dans les chemins qu’il a prescrits et en obéissant à ses lois, ses commandements, ses articles de droit et ses ordonnances, tels qu’ils sont consignés dans la Loi de Moïse. Alors tu auras du succès dans tout ce que tu entreprendras et partout où tu iras. 4 Et ainsi l’Eternel accomplira la promesse qu’il m’a faite en me disant[b] : « Si tes descendants veillent sur leur conduite pour vivre fidèlement selon ma volonté de tout leur cœur et de tout leur être, il y aura toujours l’un d’entre eux sur le trône d’Israël. » 5 Par ailleurs, tu sais tout ce que m’a fait Joab, fils de Tserouya, et ce qu’il a fait à deux chefs des armées d’Israël, à Abner, fils de Ner, et à Amasa, fils de Yéter. Il les a assassinés en pleine paix comme s’il s’agissait d’un fait de guerre, il a pris sur lui la pleine responsabilité de ce meurtre[c]. 6 Tu agiras envers lui avec sagesse et tu ne le laisseras pas mourir tranquillement de vieillesse. 7 Mais n’oublie pas de traiter avec bonté les fils de Barzillaï, le Galaadite. 9 Maintenant, ne le considère pas comme innocent ; tu es un homme avisé et tu sauras comment tu dois le traiter : tu veilleras à ce qu’il soit mis à mort malgré son grand âge.
La mort de David(A)
10 David rejoignit ses ancêtres décédés et il fut enterré dans la Cité de David. 11 Il avait régné quarante ans sur Israël : sept ans à Hébron et trente-trois ans à Jérusalem[i].
12 Salomon siégea sur le trône de son père David et il établit fermement son autorité royale.
