^5 (A)At Gibeon the Lord appeared to Solomon ^(B)in a dream by night; and God said, “Ask! What shall I give you?”

^5 (A)If any of you lacks wisdom, ^(B)let him ask of God, who gives to all liberally and without reproach, and ^(C)it will be given to him. ^6 (D)But let him ask in faith, with no doubting, for he who doubts is like a wave of the sea driven and tossed by the wind.

² that the Lord appeared to Solomon the second time, ^(A)as He had appeared to him at Gibeon.

^7 (A)On that night God appeared to Solomon, and said to him, “Ask! What shall I give you?”

⁸ And Solomon said to God: “You have shown great ^(B)mercy to David my father, and have made me ^(C)king in his place. ⁹ Now, O Lord God, let Your promise to David my father be established, ^(D)for You have made me king over a people like the ^(E)dust of the earth in multitude. ^10 (F)Now give me wisdom and knowledge, that I may ^(G)go out and come in before this people; for who can judge this great people of Yours?”

^11 (H)Then God said to Solomon: “Because this was in your heart, and you have not asked riches or wealth or honor or the life of your enemies, nor have you asked long life—but have asked wisdom and knowledge for yourself, that you may judge My people over whom I have made you king— ¹² wisdom and knowledge are granted to you; and I will give you riches and wealth and honor, such as ^(I)none of the kings have had who were before you, nor shall any after you have the like.”

^13 (A)And whatever you ask in My name, that I will do, that the Father may be ^(B)glorified in the Son. ¹⁴ If you ^[a]ask anything in My name, I will do it.

³⁸ But Jesus said to them, “You do not know what you ask. Are you able to drink the ^(A)cup that I drink, and be baptized with the ^(B)baptism that I am baptized with?”

³⁹ They said to Him, “We are able.”

So Jesus said to them, ^(C)“You will indeed drink the cup that I drink, and with the baptism I am baptized with you will be baptized; ⁴⁰ but to sit on My right hand and on My left is not Mine to give, but it is for those ^(D)for whom it is prepared.”

^41 (E)And when the ten heard it, they began to be greatly displeased with James and John. ⁴² But Jesus called them to Himself and said to them, ^(F)“You know that those who are considered rulers over the Gentiles lord it over them, and their great ones exercise authority over them. ^43 (G)Yet it shall not be so among you; but whoever desires to become great among you shall be your servant. ⁴⁴ And whoever of you desires to be first shall be slave of all. ⁴⁵ For even ^(H)the Son of Man did not come to be served, but to serve, and ^(I)to give His life a ransom for many.”

Jesus Heals Blind Bartimaeus^(J)

^46 (K)Now they came to Jericho. As He went out of Jericho with His disciples and a great multitude, blind Bartimaeus, the son of Timaeus, sat by the road begging. ⁴⁷ And when he heard that it was Jesus of Nazareth, he began to cry out and say, “Jesus, ^(L)Son of David, ^(M)have mercy on me!”

⁴⁸ Then many warned him to be quiet; but he cried out all the more, “Son of David, have mercy on me!”

⁴⁹ So Jesus stood still and commanded him to be called.

Then they called the blind man, saying to him, “Be of good cheer. Rise, He is calling you.”

⁵⁰ And throwing aside his garment, he rose and came to Jesus.

⁵¹ So Jesus answered and said to him, “What do you want Me to do for you?”

The blind man said to Him, ^[a]“Rabboni, that I may receive my sight.”

³⁶ And He said to them, “What do you want Me to do for you?”

The Flight into Egypt

¹³ Now when they had departed, behold, an angel of the Lord appeared to Joseph in a dream, saying, “Arise, take the young Child and His mother, flee to Egypt, and stay there until I bring you word; for Herod will seek the young Child to destroy Him.”

²⁰ But while he thought about these things, behold, an angel of the Lord appeared to him in a dream, saying, “Joseph, son of David, do not be afraid to take to you Mary your wife, ^(A)for that which is ^[a]conceived in her is of the Holy Spirit.
