¹¹ So the king of Israel answered and said, “Tell him, ‘Let not the one who puts on his armor ^(A)boast like the one who takes it off.’ ”

My Son, Be Wise

⁷⁵ And Peter remembered the word of Jesus who had said to him, ^(A)“Before the rooster crows, you will deny Me three times.” So he went out and wept bitterly.

³³ Peter answered and said to Him, “Even if all are ^[a]made to stumble because of You, I will never be made to stumble.”

³⁴ Jesus said to him, ^(A)“Assuredly, I say to you that this night, before the rooster crows, you will deny Me three times.”

³⁵ Peter said to Him, “Even if I have to die with You, I will not deny You!”

And so said all the disciples.

¹¹ I returned ^(A)and saw under the sun that—

⁴⁴ And the Philistine ^(A)said to David, “Come to me, and I will give your flesh to the birds of the air and the beasts of the field!”

⁴⁵ Then David said to the Philistine, “You come to me with a sword, with a spear, and with a javelin. ^(B)But I come to you in the name of the Lord of hosts, the God of the armies of Israel, whom you have ^(C)defied. ⁴⁶ This day the Lord will deliver you into my hand, and I will strike you and take your head from you. And this day I will give ^(D)the carcasses of the camp of the Philistines to the birds of the air and the wild beasts of the earth, ^(E)that all the earth may know that there is a God in Israel. ⁴⁷ Then all this assembly shall know that the Lord ^(F)does not save with sword and spear; for ^(G)the battle is the Lord’s, and He will give you into our hands.”

¹² Then the men of the garrison called to Jonathan and his armorbearer, and said, “Come up to us, and we will ^[a]show you something.”

Jonathan said to his armorbearer, “Come up after me, for the Lord has delivered them into the hand of Israel.” ¹³ And Jonathan climbed up on his hands and knees with his armorbearer after him; and they ^(A)fell before Jonathan. And as he came after him, his armorbearer killed them.

⁶ Then Jonathan said to the young man who bore his armor, “Come, let us go over to the garrison of these ^(A)uncircumcised; it may be that the Lord will work for us. For nothing restrains the Lord ^(B)from saving by many or by few.”
