⁹ “Arise, go to ^(A)Zarephath, which belongs to ^(B)Sidon, and dwell there. See, I have commanded a widow there to provide for you.”

²⁶ but to none of them was Elijah sent except to ^[a]Zarephath, in the region of Sidon, to a woman who was a widow.

Cast Down but Unconquered

⁷ But we have this treasure in earthen vessels, ^(A)that the excellence of the power may be of God and not of us.

A Gentile Shows Her Faith^(A)

^21 (B)Then Jesus went out from there and departed to the region of Tyre and Sidon. ²² And behold, a woman of Canaan came from that region and cried out to Him, saying, “Have mercy on me, O Lord, ^(C)Son of David! My daughter is severely demon-possessed.”

⁴ And it will be that you shall drink from the brook, and I have commanded the ^(A)ravens to feed you there.”

¹⁷ (as it is written, ^(A)“I have made you a father of many nations”) in the presence of Him whom he believed—God, ^(B)who gives life to the dead and calls those ^(C)things which do not exist as though they did; ¹⁸ who, contrary to hope, in hope believed, so that he became the father of many nations, according to what was spoken, ^(D)“So shall your descendants be.” ¹⁹ And not being weak in faith, ^(E)he did not consider his own body, already dead (since he was about a hundred years old), ^(F)and the deadness of Sarah’s womb. ²⁰ He did not waver at the promise of God through unbelief, but was strengthened in faith, giving glory to God, ²¹ and being fully convinced that what He had promised ^(G)He was also able to perform.

⁴ But the Lord said to Gideon, “The people are still too many; bring them down to the water, and I will test them for you there. Then it will be, that of whom I say to you, ‘This one shall go with you,’ the same shall go with you; and of whomever I say to you, ‘This one shall not go with you,’ the same shall not go.”

² And the Lord said to Gideon, “The people who are with you are too many for Me to give the Midianites into their hands, lest Israel ^(A)claim glory for itself against Me, saying, ‘My own hand has saved me.’
